PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Bank of Utah Championship

Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
After a week off, it’s nice to see a golf tournament back on the calendar! We have the Bank of Utah Championship on the calendar this week. This is an event that debuted a year ago as the “Black Desert Championship” on the same course. We unfortunately have another pretty weak field, as is often the case during the fall. Still, everyone is playing with the same player pool, and there’s plenty of money to be won in the DFS streets. Embrace the potential variance, and have fun with it!
Editor’s Note: RotoGrinders has partnered with Betsperts Golf and the Rabbit Hole!

For the second year, this event will be hosted by the Black Desert Resort course in St. George, Utah. The course is a par-71 layout that stretches to over 7,400 yards. While a few holes have been lengthened for the 2nd edition, the overall length is still moderate by today’s PGA TOUR standards. There are 3 par 5s on the course, and there are also a couple of short par 4s that could be reached from the tee with a good drive. Last year proved that the bomb-and-gouge approach can clearly work around here, as there is very little trouble around the course. It played as the 2nd-easiest par 71 on TOUR a year ago, behind only TPC Deere Run.
Bentgrass surfaces are featured throughout the property, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the winning score get to about 25-under par after a 23-under winning score last year. I will be looking at birdie makers, and the course also has wide fairways to where I will prioritize bombers and good total drivers of the ball. Current form certainly doesn’t hurt, especially in a weaker field where confidence could be a key momentum builder.
Let’s take a look at some of my favorite GPP options!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Bank of Utah Championship
Michael Thorbjornsen
DraftKings: $10,000
FanDuel: $11,900

This is a wide open tournament, but Thorbjornsen is my official pick to win. He is a budding future star on the PGA TOUR who is very aggressive and will thrive on easier courses. He has percolated into the fall with just 1 missed cut in his last 8 starts, and 4 of those have resulted in top-20 finishes. He leads this field in greens in regulation this season, and over the last 36 rounds, he ranks inside the top 10 in this field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, Strokes Gained: Approach, and ball striking. He withdrew at this tournament a year ago, but the current form and trends are fantastic. I’m in.
