PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Cognizant Classic
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Welcome back, golf fans! The Cognizant Classic is upon us this week, and it marks the start of this year’s Florida swing. I still cannot get used to this having a name other than the Honda Classic, but sponsors change. At least the venue remains the same with PGA National playing host.
Over the last 18 years at this event, the winning score has only gotten into double digits under par seven times. However, the winning score got to 17 under par a year ago, as the previously long par four 10th hole played as a short par five for the first time. The course now plays to a par of 71 instead of 70. Naturally, that is going to lead to better scoring numbers, but we also didn’t see much wind a year ago. We will need to monitor the weather forecast this year, as Friday winds look like they might offer us a bit of a wave advantage as of the early portion of the week.

While I generally don’t put a ton of emphasis on short game play and bogey avoidance, those abilities are certainly important at this event. Distance off the tee isn’t necessarily a prerequisite to contend, though it obviously doesn’t hurt to be closer to the green after your tee shots. As usual on tough courses though, I will be focusing on approach play for the most part. Ball striking is key here, as is the ability to save par when needed. Par four scoring gets a bit of a bump on a par 71 layout too. I also won’t be afraid to take a few risks with my GPP builds, as the water hazards around this course make for a very unpredictable tournament.
Let’s check out some of my favorite GPP picks for the Cognizant Classic!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Cognizant Classic
Shane Lowry
DraftKings: $10,500
FanDuel: $11,800
Lowry does not play a lot on the PGA TOUR during the fall and winter months, so he tends to go a bit under-owned when he does get back into action. PGA National is one of his usual starting points to kick off more play in the United States, and that approach has worked well for him in the past. He absolutely loves this course. Lowry has made the cut in each of his seven previous trips, and the last three of those have all resulted in top 5 finishes. He also finished 2nd at Pebble Beach a month ago, so the form looks good coming in. While it’s tough to pay this kind of premium for him, he’s a deserving favorite at the top of the list.
