PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: FedEx St. Jude Championship
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Hello again, PGA DFS Grinders! This week brings us the FedEx St. Jude Championship as the first playoff event, and it will be held at TPC Southwind in Memphis. This tournament used to be a typical PGA TOUR event for many years before being moved to be a WGC event, and those don’t even exist any longer. Now the tournament has been selected to host the first playoff event in what seems to be its new “normal” spot on the calendar.
Apparently, the TOUR has decided there is nothing more exciting than rewarding the playoff golfers with 4 days in the heat of Memphis in August. It’s a battle of the wills in the heat!

One constant has remained over the years, and that is that TPC Southwind can still present a difficult test. Over the last 15 PGA TOUR events held here, only one winner has finished with a score better than -17. A few winning scores have been around the -10 mark. There are no super easy holes on this course, and water awaits on more than half of the holes to punish errant shots. As we often see on tracks like this, good ball striking is paramount to success. We have another par 70 course with just a pair of par 5s, so I will lean on some par 4 scoring metrics as well.
Given the playoff format changes over the past few years, we only have 70 golfers competing in this event. Rory McIlroy is not participating, so we have a final field of 69 golfers. That makes it similar to when TPC Southwind hosted the WGC for a few years. The top 50 in the standings following this week will advance to next week’s BMW Championship, and there will NOT be a cut this week. That means every golfer will get to play all 4 rounds regardless of their place on the leaderboard.
Let’s dive in and discuss some of my favorite GPP picks for the week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the FedEx St. Jude Championship
Scottie Scheffler
DraftKings: $13,000
FanDuel: $13,400
I always have some internal debates when it comes to putting Scottie Scheffler in a GPP article. After all, he’s almost always the most popular player in a given week, so can he truly be a good “GPP” option? On the other side, if I don’t include him, does it look weird that I’m NOT putting a golfer with a great shot to win in the article? It’s all relative, of course, based on your own personal perspective. I certainly don’t include him every week that he plays, but it feels like this is one week where I need to put him in here. This is a no-cut event with fairly loose pricing on both FD and DK once you get past Scheffler. Rory McIlroy isn’t playing. It’s a tough golf course that demands excellence in all phases. All of these are elements that separate Scheffler from the rest of the field because of just how good he is. Over the last 24, 36, and 50 rounds, he ranks inside the top 10 in this field in every strokes gained metric. He hasn’t finished worse than 8th in a stroke-play start since THE PLAYERS in MARCH. That’s 5 consecutive months of top-10 finish after top-10 finish. I will have Scheffler in at least 50% of my lineups this week, and I recommend being overweight compared to our final projected ownership numbers. There are other spots we can use to diversify our squads.
