PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Genesis Scottish Open
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Hello, Grinders! Welcome back to the PGA DFS GPP breakdown! We have the season’s final major on the calendar next week with The Open Championship, so the PGA TOUR and the DP World Tour are collaborating this week with a “co-sponsored” event between the two Tours with the Genesis Scottish Open, as they have done every year since the 2022 season.
It is important to note that this is not a relatively “new” event. While many of the PGA TOUR regulars have not played here much, this is a tournament that has been contested annually on the European Tour / DP World Tour. Therefore, we do have more history than you would think for the event. This brings about an important point: Many DFS players will gravitate toward rostering the traditional PGA TOUR players they are more familiar with. However, the European golfers generally will have an advantage at this tournament, and that’s even more of an advantage for us if they are lower owned.
I have written the above paragraph in the introduction each year for this tournament, as I think it is of paramount importance as we consider our GPP options this week.

As for the course, Renaissance Club will play host to the tournament. In the three years since the co-branding debut, the winning score has been -7 (2022 in heavy winds), -15 (2023 in lighter winds), and -18 (last year in optimal conditions). As with many courses you will see in Europe, wind is the main defense that the course has. Early forecasts this week have VERY calm winds for Scotland at this time of year, so I would expect plenty of birdies to be available again this year.
The Renaissance Club course will play as a par 70 with 5 par 3s and 3 par 5s. As usual, ball striking and tee-to-green play will be the primary metrics I will be looking at, but good putters can find success here, and I will consider par 3 scoring with the additional one on the scorecard. As I mentioned in the first part of the introduction, I’m also leaning toward European players who have experience on courses like this one.
Let’s move along to some of my favorite GPP picks for the week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Genesis Scottish Open
Rory McIlroy
DraftKings: $11,400
FanDuel: $12,200
I am very curious to see how ownership shakes out at the top of the board this week. Scottie Scheffler is obviously the best all-around golfer in the field, but he has also been priced appropriately high on both DraftKings and FanDuel. McIlroy comes in at a bit of a discount, but there is no denying that McIlroy has taken his foot off the gas since his win at the Masters back in April. He finished T47 at the PGA Championship and even missed a cut in a weaker field in the RBC Canadian Open. However, he has slowly turned things around a bit with a T19 and a T6 in his last 2 starts. That T19 was highlighted by a strong final round at the U.S. Open, so the last 5 rounds have been much better. He generally plays well on Scottish courses, and his high ball flight will work better if the winds are down. He has a win and a T4 at the Scottish Open the last 2 years, and he is my favorite starting point for builds this week.
