PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: John Deere Classic
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Welcome back, PGA golf fans! We have the John Deere Classic on the schedule for the upcoming holiday weekend. This is one of my favorite tournaments of the year, as it is contested about 30 minutes from my house. That makes this the most accessible PGA TOUR event for me to attend on an annual basis. It’s going to be a hot weather week in the western part of Illinois, but that is the norm for this time of year. We have a weak field assembled for the John Deere, which is generally no surprise. That happens all the time, given that this is held the week before everyone heads overseas for the Scottish Open and The Open Championship. Still, there’s plenty of DFS money to be won, and we all have to deal with the same player pool.

TPC Deere Run is your host course for this event, and Deere Run always sets up as one of the easiest courses on TOUR. In fact, TPC Deere Run has hosted this event 24 times now, and the winning score has never been worse than 16 strokes under par. It has been 18 under par or better in each of the last 15 editions. Birdies and eagles are the name of the game around this place. This is a bit of a rare layout in the fact that it is a par 71, so we have 3 par 5s in play this week. A lot of the par 4s are fairly short in terms of distance, so wedge play will be absolutely critical. I will be honing in on players who are solid from the 125-150 yard range while also looking at birdie makers and golfers with a good combination of length and accuracy off the tee. Distance can be an advantage if that golfer is hitting the fairway. At the end of the day, it all comes down to scoring.
Once again, getting as many golfers through the cut as possible is paramount for this event, as there will be plenty of scoring opportunities available. It will take a very, very good 5/6 lineup to beat any lineup that gets all 6 golfers through the cut since almost every golfer in the field will be racking up fantasy points. We also need to embrace variance, as these shootouts often turn a bit unpredictable, as we saw last week in Detroit.
Let’s move along to check out some of my favorite GPP options for the week!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the John Deere Classic
J.T. Poston
DraftKings: $10,100
FanDuel: $11,600
If you are just looking straight at raw points projections, almost every system is going to spit out Ben Griffin as the top golfer this week. I do not necessarily disagree with that assessment, as Griffin has been playing basically every week and has been lights out over the spring and early summer. However, this is a tournament that is often unpredictable, as I wrote in the introductory section. We need to shoot for some variance, and I don’t love playing Griffin at massive ownership. That’s where J.T. Poston comes into play as my favorite pivot on the high end. Poston is always capable of being lights out with the putter himself, and he has a strong history at TPC Deere Run that includes a win in 2022. His irons have faded just a bit in recent weeks, but that is also part of why Poston is projecting for less than half the ownership of Griffin. I love this as a GPP angle.
