Welcome back to the PGA DFS GPP breakdown! We have the Mexico Open at Vidanta on the schedule this week, and this will be the fourth year for this tournament.

It’s always difficult to peg newer tournaments given the lack of course information and historic data points, but we are starting to get more data after a couple of years. As for the course itself, Vidanta Vallarta is the host venue. It is a par 71 that measures over 7,400 yards on the scorecard. However, it’s not your traditional par 71 with three par fives. This course has four par fives and FIVE par threes, which means there are only nine par fours on the course. You can upgrade the importance of long iron play with the longer par threes and par fives being a significant percentage of holes. However, the DataGolf course fit tools show that driving distance has a high correlation to success here.

Tool Highlights

Given the above information, I am placing more importance on the off-the-tee game. Long, accurate drives will put golfers at a huge advantage on this course with the long par fours and the four par fives. Scoring will depend on the strength of the wind, as there are plenty of water and bunker hazards on the course. Early forecasts have wind expected to be negligible this week, so I am upgrading the scorers and the bombers in what should be strong scoring conditions.

However, we must also note that this is one of the weakest fields we have seen in recent memory. It’s ugly out there this week!

Let’s move on to take a look at some of my favorite GPP options for this tournament!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Mexico Open

Patrick Rodgers
DraftKings: $9,500
FanDuel: $11,300

PGA golfer Patrick Rodgers

I can’t remember a tournament that has been as wide open as this one. There really isn’t a “favorite” to be had in such a weak, jumbled field, so take this with something of a grain of salt. That said, Rodgers is my preferred starting point for roster builds this week. Rodgers couldn’t quite hold a Sunday lead at Torrey Pines a week ago, but he still had a rock solid week of golf. He tends to excel on courses that allow you to use the driver (as Torrey does), and we have another of those venues this week. He has finished inside the top ten in each of the three previous iterations of this tournament, and he has gained over 25 strokes over field average in those three starts.
