Welcome back to the PGA DFS GPP breakdown article! We are coming off a fun Travelers Championship, where I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Tommy Fleetwood after he was just 1 hole away from finally winning a PGA TOUR event. Nonetheless, it was a cool story for upcoming Ryder Cup captain and New England native Keegan Bradley to get the job done in Connecticut. I really enjoyed that tournament.

Now, we are on to a softer portion of the schedule, with weak field events coming up over the next couple of weeks. It starts with the Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club in Michigan, which is where the PGA TOUR heads for this final weekend of June.

Tool Highlights

As for this week’s venue, Detroit Golf Club is a moderate-length par 72 layout that generally plays as an easy course. There is very little trouble lurking, and the course has had the lowest double bogey or worse rate of any course on TOUR over the years it has hosted. Winning scores have ranged from -18 to -26 in each of the first 6 editions. I would expect the strong scoring to continue this year in the absence of crazy wind.

Given that we have a par 72 course with little trouble, I will be targeting good par-5 scorers and birdie makers. This course can also cater to the bombers off the tee while turning into a wedge/putting contest at times. Don’t be afraid to take some chances with your GPP builds given the way this course plays, as variance is higher in these shootout-style events.

Let’s take a look at some of my favorite GPP options for the week!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Rocket Classic

Patrick Cantlay
DraftKings: $10,200
FanDuel: $11,800

PGA Golfer Patrick Cantlay

I don’t endorse Patrick Cantlay very often, but these are the types of events where I will make an exception. He’s a talented golfer in a weaker field, and he often tends to feel more comfortable in the lower-profile tournaments that don’t get as much media attention. That is exactly what we have this week, and it feels like he’s trying to make sure his game is in good shape before the golfers head over for The Open in a few weeks. Cantlay has only played in this event once, but it happened to be a runner-up finish in 2022. Despite not being in elite form right now, he still ranks inside the top 10 of this field in approach play and ball striking over the last 36 rounds, and he’s capable of making plenty of birdies. The short game is what has been letting him down more of late, but we can attribute some of that to variance. This is a good bounce-back spot for him, and he’s definitely in the mix as the top overall golfer in the field.
