Welcome back, golf fans! This will represent our final week together for the 2024 calendar year, as the brief winter break arrives after this event. This gives us one last chance to make some golf money this year! The RSM Classic is on the table for us this week, and we do have a decent field assembled compared to some of the other fall swing tournaments. It should be a fun cap to a crazy year.

Tool Highlights

As for the event, this tournament will be played on two courses prior to the cut. That is necessary in order for the tournament to allow for a full field while still being able to finish the rounds during the limited daylight hours that we have at this time of year. The Seaside Course will host both weekend rounds, while each player will play one round on the Plantation Course prior to the cut. Both courses are short at around 7,000 yards, while the Seaside Course is a par 70 and the Plantation Course is a par 72. Both courses tend to play relatively easy, averaging between 1-2 strokes under par per round depending on weather conditions. As always, scores get worse if the winds pick up. The weather looks relatively calm this week, so we may see someone challenge the tournament record -29 score that Ludvig Aberg put up here a year ago.

Most golfers agree that this venue does not prioritize distance off the tee. Ball striking and approach play will once again be paramount, as is usually the case on these shorter courses. Course history is also a bit of a bonus here, as the same golfers do tend to play well here quite often. Many PGA Tour players tend to reside in this area also, and those players obviously will have a lot of familiarity with the two tracks that are being used.

Let’s take a peek at some of my favorite GPP options for the RSM Classic! Enjoy the winter break, and we’ll see you back here in January!

The field is finally getting a little stronger as we wrap up the 2024 calendar year in the golf world. We have had brutal fields over the past two months, but some higher-end golfers have chosen to partake in Sea Island this weekend. That includes Thompson, whom we have only seen once since the beginning of September. Of course, that was a steady 66-68-66-66 performance on his way to another ho-hum T5 finish at the Shriners Children’s Open in Vegas last month. Thompson hasn’t missed a cut since June, and he has four top-10 finishes since then, including his debut win at the John Deere Classic. He tends to play well in events where scoring conditions are good, and he can rack up birdies in bunches. He’s an elite option to start your DFS lineups with at this event.
