Welcome back, golf fans! Just a few days after the Presidents Cup, the PGA TOUR fall season is back with the Sanderson Farms Championship. In the past, this tournament had generally been held as a secondary event alongside a WGC event or a major, but the 2020 schedule changes allowed this event to be held as a standalone tournament. This will be the fifth consecutive year of that treatment, which gives us slightly stronger fields than what you see for a secondary event. However, with this one being the week after a Presidents Cup, it feels like the field is a bit weaker than it would be otherwise. As such, it feels more like a “secondary” tournament again. All the same, you can depend on the PGA DFS optimizer to assist you in crafting lineups.

Tool Highlights

As for the host course, Country Club of Jackson is a moderate length par 72, but it shouldn’t play as a difficult venue. In fact, the winning score has checked in at 17-under par or better in each of the last 9 editions of the event — and remember that is with a generally weak field competing every year. Ball striking and birdie opportunities will be the name of the game, and this is another potential birdie fest that could turn into a putting contest. However, one thing that has been noted over the years is that bombers do have an advantage at this venue. There are 4 reachable par 5s here, and there is very little trouble to be found. Bombs away! I will be prioritizing golfers who are good drivers of the ball, can make plenty of birdies, and bring good form into this tournament. Scoring will be the name of the game.

Let’s dig in and find some of my favorite GPP picks for the second FedExCup fall event!

If you have read my content for any length of time, my inclusion of Nick Dunlap as a preferred option this week will not surprise you. I really like the talent that he has, and in just his first season on the PGA TOUR, he showed us his potential with two wins — one at the American Express in January, and one at the Barracuda Championship in July. He is an aggressive golfer who is plenty long off the tee, and that is the type of golfer that is the prototype for success at Country Club of Jackson. Dunlap’s results are certainly volatile, but he also had an impressive top 5 in the first playoff event in August, and it seems like only a matter of time before he is a consistent force on TOUR. His elevated salary will keep him from being super popular this week, and that’s even better for those of us who want to take him in GPP lineups.
