Welcome back, golf DFS Grinders! Just a few days after an intriguing Ryder Cup, the PGA TOUR fall season is back with the Sanderson Farms Championship. If we go back to before the COVID-19 days, this tournament had generally been held as a secondary event alongside a WGC event or a major, but the 2020 COVID-induced schedule changes allowed this event to be held as a standalone tournament, and it has gotten strong reviews since that treatment began.

As such, this will be the sixth consecutive year that the Sanderson Farms Championship has been held as a standalone tournament, which gives us slightly stronger fields than what you see for a secondary event. However, with this one being the week after a Ryder Cup, this field is a bit weaker than it would be otherwise. When looking through the field list, this feels more like a “secondary” tournament again.

Tool Highlights

The host course for this event will once again be the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi. This venue is a moderate length par 72, but it almost never plays as a difficult course. In fact, the winning score has checked in at 17-under par or better in each of the last 10 editions of the event — and remember that is with a generally weak field competing every year. Ball striking and birdie opportunities will be the name of the game, and this is another potential birdie fest that could turn into a putting contest. However, one thing that has been noted over the years is that bombers do have an advantage here. There are 4 par 5s on this course, and they are all reachable in 2 shots for most of the field. There is also very little trouble to be found around the Country Club of Jackson. Bombs away! I will be prioritizing golfers who are good drivers of the ball, can make plenty of birdies, and bring good form into this tournament. Scoring will be the name of the game, and par-5 scoring metrics get a bit of a boost on the par-72 layout.

Let’s dig in and find some of my favorite GPP picks for the second FedExCup fall event!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Sanderson Farms Championship

Michael Thorbjornsen
DraftKings: $9,500
FanDuel: $11,600

PGA Golfer Michael Thorbjornsen

I love the balanced build this week, as this tournament is absolutely wide open. I like starting with Thorbjornsen as my favorite spend. He finished the summer on a heater with 5 made cuts in his final 6 starts, and all but one of those made cuts resulted in a top-25 finish. He ranks 5th in this field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee over the last 36 rounds, and he finished 8th in his debut on this course a year ago. He’s only 24 years old, and his arrow is pointing straight up as we head to the fall swing.
