PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Shriners Children's Open
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Welcome back, golf fans! The PGA TOUR heads to Las Vegas this week for the annual Shriners Children’s Open. This is one of the few events that hasn’t seen a major change in its spot on the calendar over the last few seasons, as this is an event that is almost always contested in the October time frame. The host course this week will be TPC Summerlin, a venue that has hosted this event every year since 2008.
As we see with many regular PGA TOUR stops these days, TPC Summerlin is a course that often yields favorable scoring conditions. Outside of one year where high winds were a major factor, every edition of this event since 2008 has seen a winning score of -16 or better. In keeping with tradition, Tom Kim has won the last two editions of this tournament with scores of -24 and -20. Birdies, birdies, more birdies, and some eagles will be the name of the game here. Getting all your golfers through the cut line is of prime importance if you want to finish near the top of a contest leaderboard. To that end, check out the PGA optimizer right here on RotoGrinders.

As for the course, TPC Summerlin is a moderate length par 71 layout. The trio of par 5s should play fairly easily, as all 3 are generally reachable in 2 if a drive lands in the fairway. There are a handful of short-to-moderate length par 4s on the course, so we should see plenty of wedges and short irons on approach. As such, I will be looking at ball strikers, good wedge players, and golfers with a history of success in Vegas. I do think that course history matters here, especially since there are plenty of “off-course” distractions available in Vegas. Birdie or better percentage is also worth looking at given that scoring opportunities should be plentiful.
Let’s dig in to find some of my favorite GPP picks for this week!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Shriners Children’s Open
Tom Hoge
DraftKings: $9,800
FanDuel: $11,500
Yahoo: $34
Hoge has the blend of course history and current form that I really like to see this week. I don’t trust players with limited experience in Vegas because there are a lot of… distractions… outside of the golf course. However, Hoge has proven that he can handle those distractions, with 3 top-25 finishes in the last 4 editions of this tournament. He also ranks 9th in this field on approach over the last 36 rounds, and he can make plenty of birdies. He is coming off a strong year in which he made the TOUR Championship, and he started the fall with a T7 finish a few weeks ago. I like the trends here, and he will be the starting point for a lot of my lineups.
