PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Texas Children's Houston Open
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Welcome back to the PGA DFS GPP breakdown! We have the Texas Children’s Houston Open on the calendar this week. The name has changed a lot over the years, and the date has even changed as well. For a few years, this tournament was contested in the fall, and then there was no Houston Open held in calendar year 2023. The tournament in the fall of 2022 was the most recent one before last year, but that shows as part of the “2022-2023” PGA TOUR calendar, so the semantics can get confusing.
In any case, the tournament has been re-slotted as a spring event as of 2024, back in its usual role leading up to the Masters in April.

Memorial Park Golf Course will host for the fifth time. While the course is a municipal, public layout, don’t let that fool you. It is one that still represents a unique challenge for these PGA TOUR pros. While it plays as a par 72 layout for members, it operates as a par 70 for the PGA TOUR, with three par 5s, five par 3s, and ten par 4s. As such, par 3 scoring takes on a little more importance. The par 4s are a mix of longer holes combined with a couple that could be set up to be driveable at least once. Long iron play takes on added importance with three of the par 4s sitting at 490+ yards and three of the par 3s sitting at 200+ yards on the scorecard. That makes for six holes where a long iron shot will be needed for most of the golfers. Good driving is going to be very important, as an approach that is 30-40 yards closer does have quite an advantage on this course. I will be looking at total driving, carry distance, and good drive percentage with some of my picks. This is not a course where you can simply hit it anywhere you want off the tee and be able to get away with it.
Since the course is challenging, I also will prioritize bogey avoidance and scrambling, while current form and course history are a strong positive. Let’s take a look at some of my favorite GPP picks for the week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Texas Children’s Houston Open
Scottie Scheffler
DraftKings: $12,700
FanDuel: $14,000
This is a strange event where we have the two best golfers on the PGA TOUR playing, and then a relatively weak field after that. As such, it is going to be incredibly difficult to fathom lineups that don’t start with one of either Rory McIlroy or Scottie Scheffler. The question becomes: Who has the edge? I will be clear that I am going to have plenty of exposure to both players, but I have the most interest in Scheffler. We know a win is going to come at some point, and he has much more history at Memorial Park than McIlroy, the latter of which is playing this event for the first time. This is a tough course where experience tends to matter, and while McIlroy has been the better of the two lately, I think Scheffler gets the edge. If he putts it reasonably well, it would be a major surprise to see Scheffler not in contention come Sunday afternoon.
