PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: The Genesis Invitational
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Greetings, DFS golf fans! Welcome back to the weekly GPP breakdown article! We have perhaps the strongest field of the 2025 calendar year staring at us with The Genesis Invitational. Most of the top golfers on the PGA TOUR will tee it up this week, and there are some massive GPP contests out there for this event with the NFL season now in the books. More eyes will be turned to the golf world, and this is a great tournament for that to be happening.
Unfortunately, the usual host site, Riviera Country Club, will not be able to host this year due to the recent wildfires in California. As such, Torrey Pines will be hosting its second event in a month as the replacement. It is a worthy host as a difficult course replacing another difficult one.

As for the tournament itself, we are dealing with a smaller field with this being an elevated event. This is also one of only two elevated events that will feature a cut. Despite just a 72-golfer field, the cut will be reduced to the top 50 and ties (or anyone within 10 shots of the lead) after the second round, so you really don’t want the golfers at the bottom this week.
The host Torrey Pines South Course is a healthy par 72 that plays at around 7,800 yards from the tips. The North Course will not be used with the more limited field, so there is no respite for the golfers this time around. As for the skill set required to succeed at this venue, you will notice that distance is a key. This is also a course where the “cream usually rises to the top,” as we often see on more difficult tracks. Tiger Woods dominated this place in his prime. Jason Day won twice in a 4-year span. Jon Rahm won here when he was on the PGA TOUR. Other bombers have peppered the leaderboard over the years, though shorter hitters have also won. Those results prove that you can contend with a lights-out all-around game or a red-hot putter. However, this place has generally been a bomber’s paradise. I’ll be focusing on Driving Distance, Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee, Ball Striking, and Bogey Avoidance for key stats. The South Course has seven par 4s that check in at 450+ yards, so this tournament won’t be a cakewalk for any golfer.
Let’s take a look at some of my favorite GPP options for this fun tournament!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for The Genesis Invitational
Justin Thomas
DraftKings: $10,100
FanDuel: $11,400
Justin Thomas is elite again. Over the last 24 rounds, he leads this field in total strokes gained and ranks 6th in approach play. That is wildly different than what we saw a year ago at this time. The driver has been somewhat erratic of late, but I am convinced that is a bit of an anomaly. The rest of the game has completely turned a corner, especially the long iron play. That portends well for another trip to Torrey Pines, where he has two top-25 finishes in his last two visits. He has two top-10 finishes already in the past month, and I look for him to be in the winner’s circle sooner rather than later.
