PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Travelers Championship

PGA Golfer Shane Lowry

Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!

Welcome back to the PGA DFS GPP article! We have another major in the rear view mirror, and Oakmont really tested the golfers at the U.S. Open with 4 days of brutality. J.J. Spaun was the eventual winner at 1-under par, and the winning score would have been even par had he not made a 64-footer on the final hole. I’m sure the golfers are ready for the welcome respite that is the Travelers Championship this week.

Tool Highlights

The week after a major brings us the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut. We have another elevated event this week, with no cut and a field of around 70 golfers. I really don’t like these tournaments, especially when they occur the week after a major, but I’m not setting the schedule!

As for TPC River Highlands, this course is a very short par 70 layout by today’s PGA TOUR standards, and golfers need to be solid with their approach shots while scoring well on par 4s in order to contend here. There are only two par 5s at this venue, and they don’t play very easily compared to other courses on the PGA TOUR. As such, par 4 scoring is of prime importance. This is a less-than-driver course because it checks in at fewer than 6,900 yards, so distance is not a major factor. I’ll focus on overall ball striking, and I’ll give a bump to course history at this venue.

Let’s take a look at some of my favorite GPP options!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Travelers Championship

Scottie Scheffler
DraftKings: $13,300
FanDuel: $13,600

Scheffler of the PGA

Scottie Scheffler scuffled his way through the U.S. Open only to finish in 7th place. It goes to show just how ridiculously high his floor is on a weekly basis that a 7th-place finish is considered a poor showing. It’s just what we have come to expect from Scheffler after his run of dominance in the spring. With this being a no-cut, elevated event, it caters more toward stars and scrubs builds. We know Scheffler leads the world in basically every statistical metric over the last however many rounds you want to use (unless you are only using last week alone), and he’s obviously the top golfer in the field. Over the last 36 rounds, he leads this field in off-the-tee play, total strokes gained, and ball striking, AND he’s up to 6th in putting. When his putter is a positive weapon, it’s tough for anyone to keep up with him. I like quite a few of the value options this week, so I will be overweight on Scheffler as a whole because the builds come together nicely. The ceiling is obvious, and the floor is just too high to ignore in his current form.

By the way, I didn’t even mention that he’s the defending champion (of course) and that he finished T4 here the year before that. He’s an NES cheat code right now. I’m showing my age with that one, but I’ll leave it there for the 10 of you who will appreciate it.
