PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: U.S. Open
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Welcome back to the PGA DFS GPP Breakdown! We have another major upon us this week, with the U.S. Open on tap at historic Oakmont Country Club just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This will be the first time since 2016 that Oakmont has hosted the U.S. Open, but it will be the 10th time that Oakmont has hosted this tournament overall. We should expect a very difficult track for the field that is assembled for the season’s third major. In fact, Ben Griffin is on record as saying that he would sign for a +4 score right now and like his chances of winning.

As for the host venue, Oakmont is a beast of a par-70 layout that stretches close to 7,400 yards from the tips. In the 2007 U.S. Open, the field averaged a score of 75.71 per round (more than 5 strokes over par per round). In the 2016 U.S. Open, the field averaged a score of 73.56 per round (more than 3 strokes over par per round). Even in this day and age of birdie fests and elite golf equipment, Oakmont is going to be a challenge for these golfers. Par is a solid score on virtually every hole — and that’s the general mantra of a U.S. Open venue.
The rough has been allowed to grow to a gnarly 5 inches in spots, and that is going to make Driving Accuracy paramount. Length doesn’t hurt either given the fact that this is a long layout for a par 70. Even though there are no water or trees on the property, the rough and the many bunkers give the course plenty of defense. I am also focusing on both Bogey Avoidance and Scrambling %. Golfers are going to have a difficult time if they can’t limit damage wherever possible, and I want players this week who can use their short game to get out of trouble.
Let’s get to some of my favorite GPP selections for this year’s U.S. Open!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the U.S. Open
Jon Rahm
DraftKings: $10,200
FanDuel: $11,900
Scottie Scheffler is an obvious top choice, but the salary has finally caught up to his recent play and is now at extreme levels. I’m going to take my chances with a few pivots on the top end, and that starts with Rahm. From his time on the PGA TOUR before he went to LIV, we know Rahm excels on difficult, long, tight layouts. That is exactly what we have at Oakmont. This course is an absolutely perfect fit for his game, and he has shown well in majors this year, with a T14 (Masters) and T8 (PGA Championship). He hasn’t finished outside the top 10 in a LIV event all year, and he is absolutely a contender this week.
