PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Valero Texas Open
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Welcome back, Golf Grinders! It’s hard to believe that we are just ONE week away from the Masters! April is here! Baseball is here! Tax season is almost over for the CPA side of my life! Good times await in the coming weeks.
With that said, we still have four more days of golf to get through before we can start to dig too deep into Augusta, with the Valero Texas Open on the calendar to get us warmed up. The week prior to a major brings us a relatively weak field down in San Antonio. The Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio will be the host course in an event that is often impacted greatly by weather. Wind can be a big factor in Texas at this time of the year, and this is one of the events where we often see an edge in the draw. One of the biggest weather edges ever in DFS golf happened at this event several years ago. Be sure to monitor the forecast as we get closer to Thursday’s tee off, and be prepared to pivot if needed.

As for the course itself, this course is a lengthy par 72 that features a lot of long par 4s, a few longer par 3s, and 3 par 5s that measure over 590 yards on the scorecard. Distance off the tee is a nice benefit as long as you aren’t too wayward with the driver. Accuracy is also important, as the rough can be very thick in places around this course. Scrambling and bogey avoidance are also important, as this course has a lot of runoff areas that make saving par difficult if you can’t hold the green on approach. It’s a tough track.
My key stats to target this week will be the usual ball striking, approach play, and scrambling, with a mix of distance/total driving as well. I also don’t mind targeting par 5 scoring with this being a par 72 layout.
Let’s get to some of my favorite GPP picks for this week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Valero Texas Open
Corey Conners
DraftKings: $10,100
FanDuel: $11,800
It’s the time of year where we just plug Conners in every week and enjoy the profits. He thrives in the spring, and he has absolutely dominated this event of late. Over the last five years, he has gained over 45 strokes over field average at this tournament. That is nearly 10 full strokes higher than anyone else. He has won twice and finished inside the top 25 two other times in that span. The ball striking machine is a great fit for TPC San Antonio, and he also strides in with 3 straight top-10 finishes in his last 3 PGA TOUR starts. There’s really nothing to dislike here other than the occasional struggle with the putter, but his tee to green game is simply on another level in this field. Tommy Fleetwood would be my second choice, but Conners is my preferred starting point.
