PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Valspar Championship
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Welcome back, Golf Grinders! We have the final event of the Florida swing event this week, with the Valspar Championship on the calendar. We have a relatively weak field for this event, as it does not have the new “elevated status” compared to a few of the other Florida tournaments. This gives us a bit of a letdown factor for DFS, especially when you consider how strong fields have been over the past month. However, there is still plenty of money up for grabs in DFS, and everyone is playing with the same player pool!
Editor’s Note: RotoGrinders has partnered with Betsperts Golf and the Rabbit Hole!

When it comes to this tournament itself, the event will be played at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook. This is a very difficult par 71 layout, but it does not fit the traditional par 71 that would have 3 par 5s and 4 par 3s. This course actually has 4 par 5s and 5 par 3s, which is not something you often see. However, the par 5s are no pushover, as they often average among the hardest sets of par 5s that we see regularly on the PGA TOUR. There are generally no “easy” holes around this place. The average score per round was almost a half stroke over par a year ago, and this played as the most difficult course on the Florida swing.
As we see with most challenging courses, accuracy, ball striking, and approach play are of prime importance. Rostering players who are strong with their long irons and can score well on par 3s is a primary objective, as there will be many approach shots hit from 150+ yards. Golfers who can scramble and avoid bogeys also get a nice bump, as the greens are small, and par is a fine score here. Total driving will be another metric I value quite a bit this week, as the rough is thick and penalizing on this course, so good driving is yet another strong skill to have at Copperhead.
Let’s take a look at some of my favorite GPP picks for the week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Valspar Championship
NOTE – I am fully embracing a potential wave advantage this week. Thursday’s winds look to really kick up in the afternoon, while Friday’s winds look to die down in the afternoon. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a large edge for the Thursday AM / Friday PM wave, and my selections below reflect that.
Tommy Fleetwood
DraftKings: $10,300
FanDuel: $11,800
I don’t do this often, but I am absolutely boarding the Fleetwood train this week. I am going all-in with the “Thursday AM / Friday PM” wave split getting the better portion of the draw, and Fleetwood is one of the few high-end options that checks that box. In addition, he is currently riding an impressive stretch of 13 straight top-25 finishes in all competitions, and he has a pair of strong finishes in his only 2 previous trips to Copperhead. Over the last 36 rounds, he also ranks 3rd in this field in approach play and 2nd in ball striking. He’s an elite option.
