PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Memorial Tournament
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Welcome back to another week of daily fantasy golf! This week marks an exciting spot on the calendar, as Muirfield Village in Dublin, OH will host the annual Memorial Tournament, which is now an elevated event. That has a strong field assembled even though we have a major tournament next week. There are 72 golfers are currently in the field, and there will be a limited cut to the top 50 and ties (plus any golfer within 10 strokes of the lead) for the weekend. I must say that even a limited cut makes these elevated events much more exciting from a DFS perspective, since it adds more of a “sweat” component to the Thursday and Friday rounds.
This tournament has been played at Muirfield Village for a long time, but some tinkering has been done to the course over the last 5 years, and it has recently been playing as the hardest par 72 venue out of all the non-majors. The course oftentimes plays around a stroke over par on average per round (it played even more difficult than that a year ago), and it will challenge these top golfers. However, there have been very few changes to the course in advance of this year’s edition.

As for the course, while Muirfield Village is a long par 72, it generally sets up as a second-shot venue. The bigger hitters will have an advantage on the par 5s, but a lot of the other holes mitigate the advantage of distance. As such, I will be focusing on ball striking and approach play, as usual. It is very important to stay below the hole on a lot of the pin locations that are used. Sometimes it is better to be 30 feet short than 15 feet past the hole, and that will be even more of a factor with trickier pins in use. While approach play is paramount, I will take par-5 scoring into consideration, as scoring is a necessity on those easier holes. Distance also maybe gets a little bit of a bump with the recent course changes, and I will also emphasize scrambling given that the field averaged hitting just 54% of greens in regulation a year ago. Basically, you have to be good at everything in order to succeed here!
Let’s move along and take a look at some of my favorite GPP options!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings GPP Breakdown for the Memorial Tournament
Scottie Scheffler
DraftKings: $13,300
FanDuel: $14,000
I was simply amazed at the movement in betting odds last week. Scheffler went eagle-birdie to start his Thursday at the Charles Schwab Challenge. At that point, his odds went to +100 to win the tournament. Yes, Scottie Scheffler had a 50% chance to win the tournament after he had played TWO holes for the week. Unfortunately for him, he hit a lull for the rest of Thursday and basically all of Friday. The result of all that? He finished in 4th place. Despite an “underwhelming” week, he logged a top-5 finish. Since the end of March, his stroke play tournament finishes have been 2nd, 4th, 8th, 1st, 1st, and 4th. During that stretch, he ranks 1st in this field off the tee, 1st on approach, 1st in ball striking, 10th in around the green, and 3rd in putting. If he is putting well, it’s basically game over for the competition. Oh, and he has finished 3rd, 3rd, and 1st in his last 3 trips to Muirfield Village. This is greatness in the game of golf right now.
