PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Charles Schwab Challenge
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Welcome, golf grinders! After another dominant performance from Scottie Scheffler to win last week’s major, it’s back to the traditional weekly grind. We have the final PGA TOUR stop in Texas this week, and this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge will be held at Colonial Country Club. Sponsorship has changed over the years for this event, but the one constant has been the course. Colonial has been the host site for this event since 1946, and we have a relatively weak field for the week after a major, though it is stronger than we see at some other lower-end events..
As for the host course, Colonial has withstood the test of time, even as technology has helped players get much better on the golf course. It’s a traditional par 70 layout that doesn’t offer much in the way of length, but the course can be very challenging, especially when the Texas winds pick up. The short par 5 first hole is the only real pushover on the course, and even that hole is no longer the “gimme” birdie hole that it once was. The traditional late spring winds in Texas often pick up during this event, which serves to make Colonial even more of a challenging test.

It is worth noting that Colonial underwent an extensive renovation after the 2023 tournament. However, I do not expect the course to play much differently, and that was the case last year in the first year after the renovation. The course was completely re-sodded, but it was only moderately lengthened. Some bunkers were also changed to accommodate the longer hitters in today’s game, but the premise of the course has not changed.
As with many shorter courses, Colonial sets up as your typical second-shot golf course, and distance off the tee is largely irrelevant. Almost the entire field can reach the par 5 first hole in 2 shots if their drive is in the fairway, and very few golfers can reach the par 5 on the back 9 in 2. It’s all about approach play and ball striking for me this week, and I am valuing course history a little more than normal. Most winners of this event tend to have some history at the venue, so that factor can’t be discounted on a challenging layout. No first-time participant has won here since Sergio Garcia all the way back in 2001.
Let’s take a look at some of my favorite GPP options!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings GPP Breakdown for the Charles Schwab Challenge
Scottie Scheffler
DraftKings: $13,700
FanDuel: $14,000
I am not going to end up with egg on my face this week. When the best golfer on the planet gets rolling, he REALLY gets rolling. We saw this 2 years ago, and we’re in the midst of it right now. I have zero concerns about a “hangover” after Scheffler’s PGA Championship win, as he loves playing in his home state of Texas. He also won the RBC Heritage in 2024 the week after winning the Masters. He has finished 2nd, 3rd, and 2nd in the last three editions of this tournament. This field dips in quality in a hurry, and Scheffler has to be a priority at the top despite the healthy DFS salary tag.
