PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: 3M Open
Top-ranked grinder, STLCardinals84, will break down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below.
Welcome back, golf grinders! There’s always a bit of a letdown factor at play the week after a major tournament, and we have a weak field event gathered for the 3M Open in Minneapolis this week. While the event may not have the general excitement of a major, it’s not like we had a lot of drama last week with Brian Harman taking down The Open Championship in very comfortable fashion. I actually like the event this week, as the back nine of this course leads to some potential fun-filled holes come Sunday afternoon.
As we have seen quite often over the past few months, another shootout should be in store in Minnesota. The winning score generally comes in around 18 to 20 under par for this event. For the fifth straight year, TPC Twin Cities is the host course. It sets up as a moderate length par 71 with three par fives in play. There is water in play on 15 holes around the property, but there is room for the professionals to miss off the tee. The water is really the only hazard that the course offers, but it does bring double bogeys into play. A four shot swing could very easily happen in one hole around here, as an eagle or a double bogey could be made on a par five. As usual, ball striking and approach play will be the name of the game, and whoever can grab a hot putter will rise to the top of the leaderboard. I will target golfers with strong birdie or better percentages, as well. I do think you can make a case for the bomber angle too, as we have seen long hitters play well here in the past.
Let’s get to some of my favorite GPP picks of the week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the 3M Open
Tony Finau
DraftKings: $10,600
FanDuel: $12,000
Yahoo: $55
It is a really close call between Cameron Young and Tony Finau at the top this week, and they both fit TPC Twin Cities nicely. Both have issues with their short game at times. Both have been inconsistent this year. Both are plenty long off the tee. Both can make birdies in bunches. It’s basically a “1A” and “1B” choice, but I am going to give Finau the edge with his course history. Young has never played this event, while Finau has made the cut in all four editions with all four being top 30 finishes — including a win (last year) and a T3 (three years ago). Give me that as the tiebreaking factor if choosing just one of the two top options. Both will end up in my multi-entry GPP player pool, though.
