PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Butterfield Bermuda Championship

Top-ranked grinder, STLCardinals84, will break down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below.

The fall PGA DFS season continues this week, but we have just two more weeks to make it count before the winter break! The PGA Tour leaves the United States this week for the Bermuda Championship. This will be the fifth edition of this event, with Brendon Todd, Brian Gay, Lucas Herbert, and Seamus Power being the winners of the first four editions. That alone tells you that this is something of an unpredictable event. Todd and Gay are two of the shortest hitters on Tour, while Herbert and Power bring a little more distance off the tee. That list of winners also tells you that we generally don’t see a strong field assembled for this tournament, as they could not even fill the full field a few years ago.

As for the players who are partaking in the tournament, Port Royal Golf Course will be the host venue for the fifth consecutive year. This is a very short par 71 layout, as it does not even touch 7,000 yards from the tips. Some golfers have compared it to Harbour Town without all the trees – meaning we have narrow landing areas which will often take driver out of the golfers’ hands off the tee. Approach play and ball striking will be the name of the game, and there will be plenty of birdies available. Even though heavy coastal winds provide some defense for the course, we still saw -24 as a winning score and -2 as a cut line in the inaugural edition. The wind has been more of a factor in some of the last few editions, though, with -15 being the winning score in two of the past three years. The wind is projected to blow this week and is expected to increase each day of the tournament, with the weekend offering the toughest conditions.

With the general information out of the way, let’s get to some of my favorite GPP picks!

You know the field strength is weak when the top golfers on the board are the likes of Akshay Bhatia, Adam Scott, and Brendon Todd. It’s nothing against those players, but they are usually about 15-20 names down the board in a normal tournament. It’s an example that shows just how wide open and unpredictable this tournament might be. If I am spending top dollar on a player this week, it will be for Bhatia. His form has been steadily improving throughout the fall, as he has gone from 41rd to 25th to 21st to 10th in his four fall swing starts. He also had a solid finish with a T16 at this event in his debut a year ago. He ranks inside the top ten of this field in strokes gained off the tee, total, and ball striking over the last 36 rounds, too. I don’t think you absolutely need to prioritize a top spend this week, but Bhatia is my favorite if I do.
