PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: AT&T Byron Nelson
Top-ranked grinder, STLCardinals84, will break down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below.
AT&T Byron Nelson
Welcome back, golf grinders! Another golf week is in store with the AT&T Byron Nelson on the schedule. We are coming off a strong field event last week, and we have a major tournament with the PGA Championship next week. That gives us a very weak field for this tournament. We also have a boring course hosting the event, as there is little trouble around this venue. Rain is also in the forecast. Jordan Spieth has withdrawn. It’s just a mess this week.
TPC Craig Ranch will be the host venue for this event for the third time. It is a long par 72 that can stretch to nearly 7,500 yards, but it does not offer much defense for today’s golfers. K.H. Lee has won each of the first two editions, getting to -25 and -26 in his two wins. As usual, a birdie fest is in store, especially since winds are expected to be relatively mild and forecasted rain might soften up the course. The wind (and some water) is the main defense for this course, and it’s not going to be a major issue this year. I will be prioritizing the bigger hitters, the strong tee to green players, and birdie makers.
It’s also worth noting that, with strong scoring conditions, getting as many golfers through the cut line is extra imperative this week.
Let’s take a look at some of my favorite GPP picks for the week!
Scottie Scheffler
DraftKings: $11,900
FanDuel: $12,400
Yahoo: $48
Scheffler is the obvious pick in this weak field, especially now that an injured Jordan Spieth has withdrawn. His metrics are significantly better than anyone else in this field. He ranks 1st in total scoring, tee to green play, ball striking, and strokes gained off the tee over the last 36 rounds. He’s around 350 odds to win. He is going to be owned at 60% on FD and 45%+ on DK. I will say that I am a bit nervous with a major next week and potential weather delays in this tournament — and I can see him being a potential GPP fade if you are into that line of thinking — but he’s clearly the top golfer in the field. It’s all a matter of how much risk you want to take on by potentially fading him.
