PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: John Deere Classic
Top-ranked grinder, STLCardinals84, will break down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below.
Hello, Grinders! Welcome back to the PGA DFS GPP article for the John Deere Classic! This is one of my favorite tournaments of the year, as it is contested a stone’s throw away from me, which makes this the most accessible PGA Tour event for me to attend on an annual basis. Unfortunately, I broke my foot over the holiday weekend and won’t be able to go this year, but I’m still looking forward to seeing how it plays out. We also have perhaps the weakest field of the year assembled here, which is generally no surprise the week before The Open Championship.
TPC Deere Run is your host course for this event, and Deere Run always sets up as one of the easiest courses on Tour. In fact, TPC Deere Run has hosted this event 22 times now, and the winning score has never been worse than 16 strokes under par. Birdies and eagles are the name of the game around this place. This is a bit of a rare layout in the fact that it is a par 71 course, so we have three par fives in play this week. A lot of the par fours are fairly short in terms of distance, so wedge play will be absolutely critical. I will be honing in on players who are solid from the 125-150 yard distance range, while also looking at birdie makers and golfers with a good combination of length and accuracy off the tee.
Once again, getting as many golfers through the cut as possible is paramount for this event, as there will be plenty of scoring opportunities available. It will take a very, very good 5/6 lineup to beat any lineup that gets all six golfers through the cut, since almost every golfer in the field will be racking up birdies and fantasy scoring. Let’s get to some of my favorite GPP picks!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the John Deere Classic
Russell Henley
DraftKings: $10,400
FanDuel: $11,800
Yahoo: $44
Henley has the best mix of safety and upside among the top options this week. He is always comfortable in shootout style tournaments, and he leads this field in approach play over the last 24 rounds. He has eight top 20 finishes in his last nine stroke play starts, so the form is absolutely there. Throw in finishes of 2nd and 11th in his last two trips to TPC Deere Run, and you have all the ingredients of a contender.
