Long-time grinder, STLCardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!

Welcome back to the PGA DFS GPP breakdown! We have the Mexico Open at Vidanta on the schedule this week, and this will be the third year for this tournament.

It’s always difficult to peg newer tournaments given the lack of course information and historic data points, but we are starting to get more data after a couple of years. As for the course itself, Vidanta Vallarta is the host venue. It is a par 71 that measures over 7,400 yards on the scorecard. However, it’s not your traditional par 71 with three par fives. This course has four par fives and FIVE par threes, which means there are only nine par fours on the course. You can upgrade the importance of long iron play with the longer par threes and par fives being a significant percentage of holes. However, the DataGolf course fit tools show that driving distance has a high correlation to success here.

Given the above information, I am placing more importance on off the tee game. Long, accurate drives will put golfers at a huge advantage on this course with the long par fours and the four par fives. Scoring will depend on the strength of the wind, as there are plenty of water and bunker hazards on the course. As of now, I would expect to see solid scoring, but we must also note that this is one of the weakest fields we have seen in recent memory. It’s ugly out there this week!

Let’s move on to some GPP selections that I like for this tournament!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Mexico Open

Tony Finau
DraftKings: $12,000
FanDuel: $12,300
Yahoo: $41

Finau is the clear class of this field and comes in at some of the shortest odds we have seen in quite some time. He has finished 2nd and 1st in the two previous editions of this event, gaining over 32 strokes over field average in those eight rounds. You could even think about locking him in every lineup if you are building a lot of entries this week, especially since his game has seemingly turned a corner, with five straight paydays to start the new year. I am not going to overthink this one and will make sure to be over the field with my exposure despite a high ownership projection.
