PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Rocket Mortgage Classic
Top-ranked grinder, STLCardinals84, will break down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below.
Welcome back to the PGA DFS breakdown article! We had a fun week at the Travelers Championship, and it was nice to see Keegan Bradley take down a title in one of his favorite events. The course played at a very easy level for the PGA Tour pros, and we have two more easy courses coming up before the next major in July. Birdies will be the name of the game!
As for this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, Detroit Golf Club will host for the fourth straight year. It is a moderate length par 72 layout that generally plays as an easy course. There is very little trouble lurking here, and the course has had the lowest double bogey or worse rate of any course on Tour over the last four years. Winning scores have ranged from -18 to -26 in the first four years, and I would expect that to continue this year. The course has taken on quite a bit of rain this week, and today’s golfers are simply too good. With this being a par 72 with little trouble, I will be targeting good par five scorers and birdie makers. Distance off the tee can be a benefit, but this can also turn into a wedge/putting contest at times. Don’t be afraid to take some chances with your GPP builds given the way this course plays, as variance is higher in shootouts. Tony Finau is on record saying that the winning score might get to -30 this week!
Let’s get to some of my favorite GPP picks of the week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Rocket Mortgage Classic
Max Homa
DraftKings: $10,200
FanDuel: $11,400
Yahoo: $46
The discussion at the top is really interesting this week, as you have an unpredictable event and a weak field. I don’t mind going against the grain a little bit here. While Homa will carry some ownership, he won’t be nearly as popular as the other high-end plays in the field this week. The masses started exiting after Homa’s missed cut at the U.S. Open, and then he missed the cut last week at the Travelers Championship, as well. However, he missed the cut on the number last week, and he did shoot a bogey-free five under par round on Friday. That’s a very positive sign, and I’m happy with his upside potential at low ownership. His short game numbers are still strong, as he ranks 4th in this field in strokes gained putting over the last 36 rounds, and he also has top 25 finishes in each of the last two editions of this tournament.
