Welcome back, golf fans! The PGA Tour heads to Las Vegas this week for the annual Shriners Children’s Open. This is one of the few events that hasn’t seen a major change in its spot on the calendar over the last few seasons, as this is an event that is almost always contested in the October time frame. The host course this week will be TPC Summerlin, a venue that has hosted this event every year since 2008. As we see with many regular PGA Tour stops these days, TPC Summerlin is a course that often yields favorable scoring conditions. Outside of one year where high winds were a major factor, every edition of this event since 2008 has seen a winning score of -16 or better. In keeping with tradition, Sungjae Im got to -24 two years ago, and the cut came in at -5. Tom Kim won with the same -24 score last year, and the cut line was -4. Birdies, birdies, more birdies, and some eagles will be the name of the game here. Getting all your golfers through the cut line is of prime importance.
As for the course, TPC Summerlin is a moderate length par 71 layout. The trio of par fives should play fairly easy, as all three are generally reachable in two if a drive lands in the fairway. There are a handful of short to moderate length par fours on the course, so we should see plenty of wedges and short irons on approach. As such, I will be looking at ball strikers, good wedge players, and golfers with a history of success in Vegas. Birdie or better percentage is also worth looking at given that scoring should be fast and furious.
With the general information out of the way, let’s get to some of my favorite GPP picks!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Shriners Children’s Open
Tom Kim
DraftKings: $10,900
FanDuel: $12,200
Yahoo: $45
I don’t often look to target defending champions of a tournament, but it’s really difficult to look past Tom Kim as the best option on the high end of the salary scale this week. He won in his debut appearance at TPC Summerlin a year ago. For the week, he made 24 birdies, 48 pars, and zero bogeys or worse. Yes, zero. That’s… pretty spectacular to accomplish, even on an easy course. He’s a great fit for the layout and strides in with strong form that includes top 25 finishes in each of his last seven events. The putter has gone a little quiet of late, but the rest of his statistical profile remains strong. There’s a nice blend of safety and upside here.
