PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Valero Texas Open
Long-time grinder, STLCardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Welcome, Grinders! It’s hard to believe that we are just ONE week away from The Masters! April is here! Baseball is here! Tax season is almost over for the CPA side of my life! Good times await.
With that said, we still have four more days of golf to get through before we can start to dig too deep into Augusta, with the Valero Texas Open on the calendar to get us warmed up. The week prior to a major brings us a relatively weak field down in San Antonio, but it does seem to be a stronger field than we have had over the past couple of years here. The Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio will be the host course in an event that is often impacted greatly by weather. Wind can be a big factor in Texas at this time of the year, and this is one of the events where we often see an edge in the draw. One of the biggest weather edges ever in DFS golf happened at this event several years ago. Be sure to monitor the forecast as we get closer to Thursday tee off, and be prepared to pivot if needed.
Note: RotoGrinders has partnered with Betsperts Golf and the Rabbit Hole! Prices will increase the day after the Masters, so take advantage and get grandfathered in at Betsperts’ lowest price now!

As for the course itself, this course is a lengthy par 72 that features a lot of long par fours, a few longer par threes, and three par fives that measure over 590 yards on the scorecard. Distance off the tee is a nice benefit as long as you aren’t too wayward with the driver. Scrambling and bogey avoidance are also important, as this course has a lot of runoff areas that make saving par difficult if you can’t hold the green on approach.
My key stats to target this week will be the usual ball striking, approach play, and scrambling, with a mix of distance/total driving as well. I also don’t mind targeting par five scoring with this being a par 72 layout.
Let’s get to some of my favorite GPP picks for this week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Valero Texas Open
Ludvig Aberg
DraftKings: $10,500
FanDuel: $11,900
Yahoo: $42
The one big mistake I think you can make this week is overthinking this tournament based on who “cares” and who doesn’t based on The Masters being next week. It’s just too difficult to quantify that. In any case, we can be sure that Aberg is still hungry to try to grab a win at this stage of his career, and TPC San Antonio could be just the place for it. Per the BetSperts Golf Rabbit Hole Tool we can see that Aberg is 3rd in this field in total driving over the last 36 rounds, and he has plenty of length to take advantage of the par fives on this course. He’s a top option in any DFS format here.
