PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: Wyndham Championship
Top-ranked grinder, STLCardinals84, will break down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below.
Welcome, golf fans! We have the final event of the regular season on tap for this week, with the FedEx Cup Playoffs beginning next week. It should be an action packed week of golf with a lot of movement on the leaderboard.
As for this week’s event, we can expect a birdie fest at Sedgefield Country Club for the Wyndham Championship. This is a relatively easy par 70 course, as it has played as one of the easier par 70 tracks on Tour for the last several years. The winning score has been -20 or better here in six of the last seven editions. Scoring is the name of the game at Sedgefield, and that may be a bit surprising. Par 70 courses usually don’t play as massive birdie fests, but that’s not the case with this one. It is worth noting that accuracy does take on some importance at this course, as the green in regulation numbers dip substantially for golfers who miss the fairway off the tee. I will not be weighting distance at all, as you will see a lot of players club down off the tee in order to try and hit more fairways. Current form and some course history are a nice bonus, especially when they intersect with one golfer.
Lastly, we might be able to consider the motivation angle. This is the last event before the annual FedEx Cup playoffs, and the playoffs only include the top 70 golfers in the standings this year. Most of the “safe” golfers have elected to skip this week, but everyone ranked from 58th to 86th in the standings will be participating. That gives us a lot of “above average” golfers in this field, and the middle tier is extremely spread out. No golfer currently sits with odds better than 18-to-1 to win. Expect some unpredictability here, and don’t be afraid to go with some balanced builds.
Let’s get to some of my favorite GPP picks of the week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Wyndham Championship
Russell Henley
DraftKings: $10,200
FanDuel: $11,600
Yahoo: $37
I don’t think you need to start with one of the most expensive golfers this week, but Henley is my pick should you choose to test those waters. He ranks third in this field in tee to green play and sixth in approach play over the last 36 rounds, and Sedgefield is definitely a course he loves. He has finished T9, T7, and T5 in the last three editions of this event, and he can make birdies in bunches when he gets it going.
