PGA DFS GPP Breakdown: ZOZO Championship
Top-ranked grinder, STLCardinals84, will break down his top PGA DFS picks in various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below.
Welcome back to the PGA DFS GPP breakdown! We have the ZOZO Championship this week, an event that will mark a brief stop in Asia for the 2023 fall season. This is the only Asian stop on the schedule this year, so there is no full “Asian swing” this fall. This tournament is a co-branded event between the PGA Tour and the Japanese Tour, so several slots in the field will go to top Japanese golfers. It will be a no cut event with 78 golfers in the field, and all of them will get to play four rounds barring withdrawal from the tournament.
As for the host course for the event, Narashino Country Club’s Championship Course will be the host venue for the fourth time. It hosted back in 2019 before the COVID pandemic hit and hosted again the past two years. Narashino is a unique par 70 layout that contains 10 par fours, 5 par threes, and 3 par fives. Par three scoring might factor in my decision making for one of the first times that I can remember. Outside of that factor, this is a relatively tight layout that does not require distance off the tee. In terms of comparisons on U.S. soil, Harbour Town Golf Links is the one that pops to the forefront of my mind, but it’s not a perfect comparison. I have also seen TPC Sawgrass and Scottsdale used as correlative courses.
We must also be mindful of scoring conditions. The weather forecast is interesting for this tournament. Heavy winds are expected to roll through in the two early rounds, with the second round being the most impactful. Keep a close eye on the forecast and the tee times for those two rounds. While there is no cut in this tournament, we could still see a weather edge opportunity present itself. For statistical references, I will be focusing on good ball strikers, good current form, and the aforementioned par three scoring.
Let’s get to some of my favorite PGA DFS tournament picks of the week!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the ZOZO Championship
Xander Schauffele
DraftKings: $11,100
FanDuel: $12,000
Yahoo: $45
Events that do not have a cut lend themselves to more stars-and-scrubs builds, so I want to try to get Schauffele in a lot of my lineups. He tends to play well in these types of tournaments, and he has posted finishes of 9th, 28th, and 10th the last three times this event was held in Asia. He also leads this field in ball striking, approach play, and putting over the last 36 rounds. We don’t have quite as many “stars” competing this week as I would have expected, and that makes Schauffele even more of a priority at the top.
