PGA DFS Tournament Breakdown: Charles Schwab Challenge

Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, breaks down his top PGA DFS tournament picks in various price ranges on DraftKings & FanDuel for the Charles Schwab Challenge. Which golfers should you be targeting to try and take down the big DFS tournaments? Find out below!
Greetings, golf fans! We have another PGA TOUR stop in Texas, and this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge will be held at Colonial Country Club. Sponsorship has changed over the years for this event, but the one constant has been the course. Colonial has been the host site for this event since 1946, and we have another large-field event with a cut this week. Those who love the cut sweat can rejoice! We don’t have the strongest field ever this week, but it is stronger than we see at some other events over the summer. It’s definitely an upgrade over last week’s mess.
As for the host course, Colonial is an iconic venue that has withstood the test of time, even as technology has helped players get much better on the golf course. It’s a traditional par 70 that doesn’t offer much in the way of length, but the course can be very challenging, especially when the Texas winds pick up. The short par 5 first hole is the only real pushover on the course, and even that hole is no longer the “gimme” birdie hole that it once was. The traditional late spring winds in Texas often pick up during this event, which serves to make Colonial even more of a challenging layout.
In what is no surprise given the nature of the course, Colonial sets up as your typical second-shot golf course, and distance off the tee is largely irrelevant. Almost the entire field can reach the par 5 first hole in 2 shots if their drive is in the fairway, and very few golfers can reach the par 5 on the back 9 in 2. However, I do like looking at total driving as a statistical metric, as the rough carries a decent penalty on this course, and players have started to hit more drivers off the tee since the 2023 renovation. Otherwise, it’s all about approach play and ball striking for me this week, and I am valuing course history a little more than normal. Most winners of this event tend to have some history at the venue, so that factor can’t be discounted on a challenging layout. No first-time participant has won here since Sergio Garcia all the way back in 2001, which is pretty remarkable given all the good young golfers who have come through the PGA TOUR over the last couple of decades.
Let’s move along to take a look at some of my favorite GPP options!
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Tournament Breakdown for the Charles Schwab Challenge
Ludvig Aberg
DraftKings: $10,500
FanDuel: $12,600

Ludvig Aberg has a reputation as a bomber, but he is developing a very strong all-around game as he gains more experience on the PGA TOUR. I think he could be the golfer who breaks the streak of 25 years without a debutant winning at Colonial. He certainly has the makeup to do it. He has quietly amassed a whopping 6 top-10 finishes over his last 7 events, with the only hiccup being a T21 at the Masters. Over the last 36 rounds, he leads this field in tee-to-green play, approach play, and ball striking. He ranks 7th around the green. It’s a great all-around profile, and he has been racking up top finishes even without being hot with the putter. If he puts it all together this week, he has the talent to run away with this event in a weaker field.
