This is the event where we can say without hesitation that golf season is back. Football is nearing the end of the road with no games this week, and we finally get to see our first test of golf at a tougher, traditional venue in Torrey Pines in San Diego, California. Brooks Koepka is also back for his PGA TOUR return, which has the media buzzing a little more than usual.

As was the case with last week’s event, we have a different style of tournament once again this week with multiple courses being in play during the first few rounds. Each golfer in this field will play one round on the Torrey Pines North Course and one round on the South Course prior to the cut on Friday evening. The South Course handles all of the weekend duties. The host South Course measures as a healthy par 72 that plays at around 7,800 yards from the tips. The North Course isn’t quite as long and generally plays around 2-3 strokes easier. That differential used to be greater prior to some renovations that were done at the North Course a few years ago. Still, we can expect the North Course to yield better scoring conditions. You will want your golfers to have a good round there. In addition, if you are playing single-round slates on DraftKings, prioritizing North Course golfers on the first two days is absolutely essential.

As for the skill set that is required to tame Torrey Pines, golfers generally need to have some distance to contend here. The host South Course is an extremely long course where a combination of distance and accuracy off the tee is a huge benefit. I will be targeting the bombers with big driving distance marks and good total driving metrics this week, while bogey avoidance and scrambling also get a bump thanks to the challenging layout. Torrey Pines can be very tricky, so course history is also a nice bonus.

Let’s take a look at some of my favorite GPP picks on a week where there are plenty of big prize pools available!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Tournament Breakdown for the Farmers Insurance Open

Xander Schauffele
DraftKings: $10,500
FanDuel: $12,000

PGA Golfer Schauffele

If you are looking for the top overall play this week, it’s tough to bet against Schauffele in a field that doesn’t include Scottie Scheffler. Schauffele is a California native with a strong history in tournaments contested out west. In his last 5 trips to Torrey Pines (including the 2021 U.S. Open), he has finishes of 2nd, 7th, and 9th among 4 top-15 results. His statistical profile doesn’t have a major weakness, and it’s impressive that he ranks 4th in this field in total strokes gained over the last 50 rounds when you consider that he skipped all the easy courses that were played during the fall of 2025. He’s the deserving favorite.
