Welcome back, golf DFS fans! I whined in this space last week about the prevalence of too many elevated events, and somehow we have YET ANOTHER one this week. We also have a major with the PGA Championship next week. If the TOUR isn’t careful, they are going to have people itching for the Rocket Mortgage Classic and the John Deere Classic before too long.

In any case, we have yet another field of around 70 golfers this week with another ho-hum no-cut event. The beat goes on. At least the course this week is a fun one, as Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina will play host. This is a venue that hosted the PGA Championship a year ago and has hosted plenty of high-profile events over the years. If you are looking at tournament history, be aware that the “recent” Truist Championships contested at Quail Hollow were 2023 and 2024, as both the 2022 and 2025 editions were held elsewhere.

Let’s move along to the host venue in Quail Hollow. Many renovations have been done over the years in preparation for major championship golf, so this course is playing with some bite as a lengthy Par 71. Driving distance and strokes gained off the tee are very important at this event, and multiple golfers are on record stating how important the off-the-tee game is here. There are a lot of long par 4s, so I will also look at players who are good with their mid and long irons. Good current form and some course history is a nice bonus, but again, make sure you ignore the data from 2022 and 2025 since Quail Hollow did not host in those years.

With the housekeeping out of the way, let’s get to some of my favorite GPP picks!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Tournament Breakdown for the Truist Championship

Rory McIlroy
DraftKings: $11,700
FanDuel: $12,800

PGA Golfer McIlroy

There may be some trepidation to roster McIlroy this week because he is coming off another Masters victory, but he has taken a couple of weeks off to celebrate and recharge. I think he’ll be just fine as he tees it up at another Signature Event. It also helps that he has won FOUR times in his career at Quail Hollow, including the last time this event was held here in 2024. McIlroy is a player I like taking on long, difficult courses, and it’s no surprise that Quail Hollow seems to fit his eye. Don’t let the T47 at last year’s PGA Championship played here fool you; he’s a force and is in solid form right now. Over the last 36 rounds, he ranks second in this field behind only Matt Fitzpatrick in tee-to-green play, and he’s top 5 in ball striking. His odds sit at around 8-to-1 to win with Scottie Scheffler not playing this week, and I love starting lineup builds with McIlroy.
