Welcome back to the PGA DFS GPP breakdown! We have the VidantaWorld Mexico Open on the fall schedule this week, and this will be the 5th year for this tournament. However, it has been moved to the fall slot on the calendar after being contested in February in previous years. It will be interesting to see if the course plays differently at this time of year, but at the very least, we should be able to get 4 fun rounds of golf after last week’s event in Bermuda was cut a round short due to high winds.

As for the course itself, Vidanta Vallarta is the host venue as it has been in every edition of this tournament. It is a par 71 that measures over 7,300 yards on the scorecard. However, it’s not your traditional par 71 with 3 par 5s. This course has 4 par 5s and 5 par 3s, which means there are only 9 par 4s on the course. You can upgrade the importance of long iron play with the longer par 3s and par 5s being a significant percentage of holes. However, the course fit tools show that driving distance has a high correlation to success here. It is interesting that last year’s event featured a playoff between Aldrich Potgieter (one of the longest hitters on TOUR) and Brian Campbell (one of the shortest hitters on TOUR), but I am prioritizing the bomber angle this week. It is worth noting that the course has had some renovation and some rerouting done since the last edition, but I don’t expect that to change the way the course plays.

Given the course layout and projected bombers paradise, I am placing more importance on the off-the-tee game. Long, accurate drives will put golfers at a huge advantage on this course with the long par 4 holes and the 4 par 5 holes. Scoring will depend on the strength of the wind, as there are plenty of water and bunker hazards on the course. Early forecasts have wind expected to be negligible this week, so I am upgrading the scorers and the bombers in what should be good scoring conditions.

Let’s move on to look at some of my favorite GPP options for this tournament!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Tournament Breakdown for the VidantaWorld Mexico Open

Tom Kim
DraftKings: $10,100
FanDuel: $12,000

Kim of the PGA

Tom Kim won the gold medal at the Asian Games a few weeks ago, and that now has him exempt from South Korea’s mandatory military service period. It is impossible to overstate just how monumental that is for Kim’s golf career, as we have seen many golfers leave for their military service and never regain top form ever again. It’s perfectly timed too, with Kim’s career trajectory pointing straight upward after a great finish to the summer. He had a summer win (Genesis Open), a 3rd-place finish at a major (U.S. Open), and he added another top 5 (Wyndham Championship). Over the last 36 rounds, he leads this field in approach play and ranks 3rd in ball striking. He may not be as much of a bomber as some others that I am targeting here, but he is a great starting point for any roster build with the rest of his game in top form.
