Greetings, weekly golf Grinders! Welcome to another tournament breakdown article as we look forward to the RBC Canadian Open!

This tournament has been all over the place during the last decade. It was canceled in both 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The spot on the calendar has rotated over the years since then, and the host course has rotated most years since the tournament started back up in 2022. However, we do have some consistency this year with both the spot on the calendar (the week just in front of the U.S. Open), and the course (TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley’s North Course), as both of these items remain the same from a year ago.

While we still don’t have a ton of history on this venue, the course did play easier than I expected a year ago, as the field averaged around 1.3 strokes under par per round a year ago. The winning score came in at -18, and the cut line was -3. This places it in the easier half of par-70 venues, but it’s still not the biggest birdie-fest you will ever see. The course played pretty welcoming off the tee and on approach, and hitting greens in regulation is paramount. I will be targeting strong tee-to-green (especially approach) players and good scorers as my priority plays, and both par-4 scoring and current form get a bump. It certainly doesn’t hurt if a golfer played here last year as well.

Let’s move along and take a peek at some of my favorite tournament options for this event!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Tournament Breakdown for the RBC Canadian Open

Sam Burns
DraftKings: $10,100
FanDuel: $11,700

PGA TOUR golfer Sam Burns

This is one of the most wide-open events we have had in quite some time. I would not be surprised to see basically any golfer priced between $8,000 and the top of the board on DK or $10,000 and the top of the board on FD hoisting the trophy on Sunday evening. I really like the way the balanced builds come together, and I think you could certainly ignore the top golfers on the board if you choose to do that. While I will be building a lot of balanced rosters, there is some merit to starting with Burns at the top. While he generally does most of his damage with the putter, the good news is that he is consistently good with that flat stick. It is no surprise that he leads this field in putting over the last 36 rounds. In addition, his irons have come around lately, as he has gained strokes over the field on approach in almost every start he has made over the last 3 months. When he gets hot, he gets hot. He lost in a playoff here a year ago, and he finished 4th in the Memorial last week. It’s all systems go right now.
