Greetings, golf fans! We have the final event of the PGA TOUR season this week, as the top 30 golfers in the standings do battle at the TOUR Championship. As usual, this will be contested at East Lake Golf Club in Georgia. East Lake is a standard par 70 that plays as a fairly stern test for the 30 golfers that qualify. It’s by no means a U.S. Open style of difficulty, but this is not an easy course. Distance is not absolutely paramount here with only a pair of par 5s on the course, and you mostly want golfers who can pepper fairways and greens. Total driving and ball striking are key metrics for me this week, and I might weigh scrambling a bit as well.
For the past few years, the TOUR has grasped at strategies to make this playoff finale more exciting. That has included a “starting advantage” for players higher in the standings, but that never really took off. A match play format is coming in 2028 that should help, but for now, the TOUR is going back to this simply being a regular tournament for the 30 golfers who have qualified. They are all now playing from an equal canvas, and whether a golfer is 1st or 30th coming into this event has no bearing on his chances to win. It’s a clean slate. Of course, with only 30 golfers, there is once again no cut this week.
This is not my favorite DFS event given that we only have 30 golfers, but let’s dive in and find some tournament options!

I really like the way that balanced builds look this week. In a no-cut event with a very limited field, the most logical solution is to throw a stars-and-scrubs build out there. If Scottie Scheffler wins by 10 strokes, this could very well backfire, but I think there is plenty of win equity with the balanced roster build. I will be starting a lot of those balanced builds with Sam Burns. While I don’t emphasize short game most weeks, it’s a bit different with Burns given that he has such an extended history of success with the putter. He actually lost strokes on the green at last week’s BMW Championship, and I hope that serves to lower his ownership. That negative putting variance won’t last forever. He still ranks 5th in this field in putting over the last 36 rounds, and the ball striking has been solid as well. He ranks 4th in this field in approach play over that same time period, and he had finished 12th or better in 4 straight starts before last week. Burns is an elite option in the playoff finale.
