PGA DFS Value Plays: Genesis Scottish Open
Micah Bedard (Darddog) is here to pinpoint the best PGA DFS salary savers for this week’s Genesis Scottish Open.
Sepp Straka punished the field on Sunday at the John Deere Classic, making a double bogey on his final hole and still winning by two strokes. When trying to find the winner next year, just find out who is staying in the same house with Straka and J.T. Poston.
I am very excited to move from one of the worst stretches of the PGA Tour season and onto my favorite one! I love that the Genesis Scottish Open is now a PGA Tour event. We now get a legit field a week before The Open at Royal Liverpool.
The Renaissance Club will play host again this year. The weather forecast is, well, what you would expect in the UK: windy and rainy. Not to mention that this tournament went from a Par 71 in 2021 to a Par 70 in 2022. All of those factors combined should make it another tough scoring environment like last year, where Xander Schauffele won by posting a -7.
We’re going to do this article a little differently this week.
Since we’re going across the pond, I’m going to give you six value plays to target that all hail from Europe. A lot of time DP World Tour guys go under-owned simply because casual players have no idea who they are. Before the pandemic, I almost played heavier on Euro DFS than PGA, so I like to think I have a bit more insight than your average golf savant on them than others (I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing).
So let’s get into some PGA DFS value plays under $7,500 on DK and $9,000 on FD to give your lineups an edge this week at the Genesis Scottish Open.
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Value Plays for the Genesis Scottish Open
Thomas Detry
DraftKings: $7,500
FanDuel: $8,700
Ok, yeah, I’m cheating with this first one. Detry isn’t under $7,500 on DK. What are you going to do about it? I wanted to start with him to highlight the pricing discrepancies between sites this week. They always exist, but with a lot of Euro guys in the field they’re more drastic and I have a couple of examples of guys I will be heavier on DK than FD and vice-versa. Detry’s had a bit of a cold stretch on the PGA Tour, missing the cut the last two times out at Rocket Mortgage and Travelers. He should feel right at home at Renaissance Club, however, finishing T-10 and T-2 in his last two appearances. In fact, he’s 4/4 making the cut at this event. He is a great price on FD, and I will be overweight there, but won’t have nearly as much on DK.
Robert Macintyre
DraftKings: $7,400
FanDuel: $9,500
You thought Bobby Mac was going to be in the field and not get a mention from me? Forget about it. I got to witness Bobby’s volatility firsthand on Sunday morning, as he was in contention in Denmark before a triple bogey on the back nine completely ruined his chances of another DP World Tour title. I’ll look on the positive side and hope that lowers his ownership this week. Since his MC at the PGA Championship, he’s made five of his last 6, with three of those finishes T-18 or better. He’s got a great all-around game, and I think he will thrive in the weather conditions. It’s kind of the opposite of Detry. I’ll have much more on DK than FD since his price is significantly less there.
Adrian Meronk
DraftKings: $7,300
FanDuel: $9,700
Meronk is basically a shoe-in to qualify for his PGA Tour card next season based on his DP World Tour season and is a dark-horse for a European Ryder Cup spot. He won in Italy earlier this year and recently finished T-3 at the BMW International Open and T-15 at the British Masters. Meronk’s OTT game is legit and should help him at a tournament you definitely don’t want to be playing from the rough a ton. He’s the biggest example of price discrepancies between sites. I probably won’t have much of all on FD but I will load up on DK.
Alexander Bjork
DraftKings: $7,300
FanDuel: $8,900
Bjork falls into the “almost too good to be true” category this week. He hasn’t missed a cut since September 2022. In his last seven DP World Tour starts, he’s only finished outside the T-10 once. He is also 4/4 on made cuts at this event. Is that someone you would be interested in? I’m semi-worried about him getting steamed up as the week goes on but I still don’t think he gets out of control because he doesn’t play on the PGA Tour. His iron play and putting have been off the charts during his current run of form. I wouldn’t overthink this spot.
Jordan Smith
DraftKings: $7,200
FanDuel: $8,900
Smith is another guy like Bjork, although not on his level, who has been very consistent this DP World Tour season. He’s made four straight cuts, including a T-20 at the U.S. Open at LACC in June. He’s also got good history at links-style courses. While links performance isn’t the only stat I’m looking at, it doesn’t hurt that his solid short-term form also translates to some aspects of this week’s course. He T-24’d here last year, and the conditions should be similar.
Joost Luiten
DraftKings: $7,100
FanDuel: $8,700
The Joost is loose! Sorry, just had to do it. Joost was one of my favorite guys to play in Euro DFS before the pandemic, and he’s been in great form lately. He’s been great on approach in his last five events, making all five cuts and finishing T-2 at the BMW International Open and T-8 at British Masters, very similar to Meronk. He didn’t even get into this event last year, so I’m sure will be motivated to do well at a PGA Tour event. He’s one of my favorite GPP plays this week because I doubt he eclipses 5% owned.
Good luck to y’all this week!
