PGA DFS Value Plays: The Open Championship
Micah Bedard (Darddog) is here to pinpoint the best PGA DFS salary savers for this week’s The Open Championship.
What a finish to the Genesis Scottish Open last weekend. I hope you were able to watch it live. I still have no clue why the PGA decided to go threesomes and split tees because of “high winds.” Did they forget what event they were hosting?
Anyways, it was another close call for one of my value plays taking down the whole thing. Bobby Mac had to have felt his odds were good when Rory McIlroy missed a birdie putt on 16, leaving him in the clubhouse with a one-shot lead with Rory having to play two more holes that were both playing over par for the day.
Of course, Rory birdied his final two holes, displaying why he’s a world-class player.
The value plays last week were great, as Bobby Mac finished 2nd by himself and Jordan Smith placed T-12. Five of my six golfers made the cut, and I will take that in any tournament.
Now we move onto my favorite major, The Open Championship. I’m especially hyped for this one, as Royal Liverpool has taken on a little bit of a makeover since Rory won back in 2014. The Par 3 17th should be a great finish down the stretch on Sunday.
I do think, with the weather and the lack of wind, we could see scoring get close to -20. There’s been a good bit of rain over the last week or so, therefore, we might see the very firm and fast courses we’re used to when the last major of the year rolls around.
One neat caveat this week is that DK is pricing players to a new minimum price of $5,500. The minimum in full-field events for as long as I can remember has been $6,000, so this will give you a chance, if you dare, to make some serious stars-and-scrubs builds.
But enough chatter, let’s get into some PGA DFS value plays under $7,500 on DK and $9,000 on FD to give your lineups an edge this week at The Open Championship.
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Value Plays for The Open Championship
Si Woo Kim
DraftKings: $7,300
FanDuel: $8,600
Si Woooo has been off the radar for a few weeks after losing a million strokes putting at Travelers en route to missing the cut. I actually like playing guys who sat out last week, because it just naturally deflates their ownership for honestly no good reason. I prefer accuracy OTT this week compared to guys who are going to spray it everywhere because the latter will pay the price. Si Woo is one of the most accurate guys OTT and doesn’t give up that much distance. He doesn’t have a ton of Open history but did finish T-15 at St. Andrews last year. It appears that he’s not going to eclipse 5% owned in MME, so I will load up.
