PGA DFS: U.S. Open Round 3 Breakdown
Round 3 Preview
Does anyone remember a whole 24 hours ago when we all thought Winged Foot played far too easy for a U.S. Open? It turns out with a little wind and some tricky hole locations, this course has some serious teeth. There were only three rounds under par the entire day and the course will likely get tougher this weekend. They are watering the rough, but letting the greens and fairways firm up. This will place an even bigger emphasis on hitting fairways and getting creative on and around these greens. We’ve already seen a bunch of golfers use the slopes on the greens to play some highlight-worthy shots.
When it comes to round three showdown and weekend contests, I generally try to avoid looking at a golfer’s position on the leaderboard. There will be golfers that just made it through the cut on Friday end up finishing inside the top 10 (and vice-versa). With no finishing points awarded in these contests, we can target the most talented golfers rather than the ones that just happened to play well in the first two rounds. It actually looks like the wind will be stronger in the morning, but the greens firming up in the afternoon creates a wash in terms of the weather.
