At the time of writing this, the second round isn’t officially in the books. However, the weather angle took a turn for the worse. The first delay caused the morning golfers to finish in the worst of the wind and the second delay allowed the afternoon golfers to avoid the bad wind and eventually have a softer course at their disposal. It’s safe to say that my plan backfired. While it’s always important to monitor the weather, the edge doesn’t always materialize the way we want. To make matters worse, I went from expecting to get five golfers through the cut with a chance at six (Justin Rose) to the cutline moving to -2 and nipping two more of my golfers.
But hey, we have showdown and weekend contests to look forward to. We have a blustery day on tap Saturday, as there are 20+ MPH gusts in the forecast from the crack of dawn until the sun sets. It looks like the strongest gusts will be in the morning with the strongest sustained winds in the afternoon, so I would call that a wash. I expect the course to firm up and play tougher than it has the first two days. I am still looking to target birdie makers, but around the green could play a bigger role on the weekend. I will still quote ball striking stats from the tournament, but will ultimately be looking to target the best golfers overall, regardless of where they currently sit on the leaderboard.
