U.S. Open Recap

dustinj

We had some drama on Sunday, but Dustin Johnson withstood the pressure and the looming penalty stroke to take down his first major. It was only a matter of time before he finally broke through and it was nice to see him to it in such dominating fashion. While everyone else near the top of the leaderboard faltered on the back nine, he was as stoic as ever and made some big shots down the stretch. It was an interesting weekend for golf as a whole, as many of the top names were nowhere near being in contention. The expert picks continued to roll. Not only did we have the winner in Dustin Johnson (four straight weeks picking the winner), but we also had Jason Day (T8), Brooks Koepka (T13), Jim Furyk (T2), Kevin Na (7), Charl Schwartzel (T23), and Russell Knox (T23).

The PGA Tour now heads to Maryland for the Quicken Loans National.

Course Preview

There is always a major drop-off in the strength of the field the week after a major and this week is no different. While there are a few big names at the top (Rickie Fowler, Patrick Reed, and Jim Furyk), there are only nine players ranked inside the top 50 in the world. With that said, we still have another week of fantasy golf and that’s always fine with me.

CCC

This event returns to Congressional Country Club for the first time since 2014. For those of you that are course history buffs, make sure that you only include the following years in your analysis: 2014, 2013, 2012, 2009, and 2008. You can also look at the 2011 U.S. Open, as it was held at this course.

The Blue Course at Congressional is a Par 71 that measures 7,569 yards. It is an extremely tough test of golf, so those that played in the U.S. Open are not going to be getting any breaks this week. When in rotation, this course is typically one of the toughest on the PGA Tour. Tiger Woods and his charity will host this event, although unfortunately he will not be returning to action. In terms of the field, there are only 120 golfers on DraftKings this week, so more golfers will make the cut than the typical week on tour. Jon Rahm will turn professional before the event, so he will potentially be cashing his first check. Web.com and trick shot standout Wesley Bryan will also be in the field.

Cut Rule: Top 70 and ties move on after the second round.

Recent Winners of this Event: Justin Rose (2014), Bill Haas (2013), Tiger Woods (2012), Tiger Woods (2009), Anthony Kim (2008)
