Course Preview

WGC events bring out the best golfers in the world. Outside of the majors, this is one of the strongest fields that we are going to have all season. The event will be held at the Trump National Doral in Florida, and yes, it’s that Trump. Donald will certainly be in attendance this week to show off his amazing hair. The Blue Monster course is a Par 72 that stretches over 7,500 yards. This has been the home course for this event since 2007, although it’s worth noting that the course had a major redesign in 2014.

DJWGC3

With the redesign, we should give a much heavier weighting to the results of the last two seasons, rather than the results from 2007-2013. This is a course that favors distance over accuracy. Fairways are tough to hit for everyone and if you are leaving yourself 200+ yard approaches, you are going to bogey a lot of holes. There will be one or two shorter hitters that pop up on the leaderboard, but make no mistake, this is a bomber’s course.

Cut Rule:

There is no cut this week. All golfers are guaranteed to play four rounds. Generally, no cut events allow us to take a few more risks when building lineups, even in cash games.

Recent Winners of this Event:

Dustin Johnson (2015), Patrick Reed (2014), Tiger Woods (2013), Justin Rose (2012), Nick Watney (2011)

Weather:

We could have pristine conditions this week in Florida. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-80s all week with little to no chance of rain. The wind isn’t as bad as it could be, as forecasts project 8-12 MPH winds throughout the week.
