Hey there, Grinders! We have our first full field PGA Tour event in quite some time here this week, so I am excited that we’re finally ready to roll — especially since the Tour is back in the United States this week. The Asian swing is fun for a while, but I always like the full field events more than the shorter field, no cut events that we have seen for much of the last month.
This week’s host will be TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, a course that has hosted this event every year since 2008. You may think that this is a difficult course given that the winning score was only -9 last year, but that is not the case. Last year’s tournament was plagued by rough winds, so the scoring was abnormally high. Every other edition since 2008 has seen a winning score of -16 or better, so we can safely consider last year’s results an outlier. Better conditions are expected this week, so we should get back to seeing plenty of birdies and eagles on the scorecards. However, it is worth noting that TPC Summerlin did undergo a renovation after last year’s edition, and all of the bunkers were re-sanded while some were moved to be better positioned with today’s big hitters. Still, I don’t expect that to be a major hindrance to scoring. The yardage of the course and the general layout has not changed at all.
