Hello there, golf fans! It feels like so long since we’ve been together after a whole ONE WEEK off! That feels like an eternity on the PGA Tour!
We’re back at it this week with the Wells Fargo Championship down in North Carolina at Quail Hollow, and this course will look a little different these days. Though Quail Hollow has hosted this event for a long time, it was given a reprieve last year in order to prepare for the PGA Championship. Many renovations were done, so this course will likely play with a little more bite now as a long, par 71 layout. Be careful relying TOO much on course history this week, and also note that the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship results are mostly irrelevant since a different course hosted the tournament.
The 2017 PGA Championship was hosted here, as I alluded to above, so we can perhaps gather some data from that this week. The winning score for that tournament was eight-under par, but I would expect the setup to be a little bit easier for a normal PGA Tour event. The one key to this course will be off the tee play. Distance helps on this course given the fact that we have a lot of long par four holes, and accuracy is also a big benefit.
