WGC-Mexico Championship
The PGA Tour heads to Mexico this week for the first headliner World Golf Championships event of the new calendar year. The Club de Golf Chapultepec will be hosting this event for the second straight year. Even though this looks like a relatively long par 71 course, it doesn’t play to the listed length because the course sits at a high elevation. You will see some players go less than driver on almost every hole other than the par fives this week. It’s definitely not a course where distance is required.
Accuracy, approach play/ball striking, and scrambling will be your key elements to watch this week. Guys who pepper fairways and greens will be at a major advantage. Those are the statistical angles I will be looking at. I expect better scoring in the second edition of the tournament at this course. Fourteen under par was your winning score last year, with Dustin Johnson hoisting the trophy. Let’s take a look at some GPP picks!
