And we have a co-ownerships matrix that shows who the highest owned pairs of golfers were in this week’s $3 Birdie:

Time to get the season started off in a big way! Let’s see who went where and maybe take a few guesses as to why!

Jon Rahm (30% GPP, 33% Cash) – So, Rahm comes out as CLEARLY the most popular player in this field. I didn’t really see this coming – and I’m not sure many did?? I saw one ownership projection that didn’t see this coming, and reading around town I heard a LOT more about Paul Casey and Justin Thomas. Rahm was a little bit cheaper, and I thought his “darling” status had been revoked – but definitely not! And with a hole-in-one on #2 that status is probably secure for the time being!
Kevin Na (20% GPP, 30% Cash) – This one shocked me a little. Kevin Na was TOTALLY lost just a few weeks ago when we saw him play, but I suppose people’s memories of him dominating the first couple of events last season are a lot stronger? He closed out his last round of “last season” by literally running from hole-to-hole and shot unbelievably well. I think all-in-all it’s solid to not put much stock in one dogged tournament from a veteran like Na, but I personally was not “in” on the repeat!
Phil Mickelson (11.8% GPP, 8% Cash) – Big Phil! What a fickle relationship with DFS fans! Clearly the last-place choice when compared to Casey, Rahm, Kuchar, and Justin Thomas – I still was surprised to see him “pop” this low, especially in GPP. People have definitely cooled on him, and the price wasn’t exactly juicy like I mentioned, but he could still easily be the class of this field. If you’ve ever picked Phil before I’m not sure why we wouldn’t like him just as much for this carefree California leg of the wraparound swing!
Grayson Murray / Wesley Bryan (10% GPP, 15-20% Cash) – I was definitely interested to see what everyone did with these two guys going in. Pretty solid ownerships on both in my opinion. The thing that concerned me is – well so these two guys had a pretty clear track record of standing out from the web.com crowd, pretty easy to pick up on that .. so easy to pick up on that it was pretty aggressively priced into their salaries, it seemed. So I wasn’t sure -I left them on the table, but I wasn’t sure what everyone else was going to do. There’s a lot to learn about these guys, especially Murray! Bryan has a few PGA events and some good rounds under his belt. But all of the guys priced around him can say a LOT more than that! I’m thinking “shiny new toy” syndrome here! … ready to eat my words!
Good luck everyone!!
