Ahh, this week feels like a return to normalcy … sandwiched between the circus that was last week (where most of the popular plays panned out) and next week when we get to stack stars with stars! We have the Shell Houston Open with a nice, balanced field … plenty of star power, plenty of cheap options, and a few gems inbetween! There are a few guys who really jumped out at me after all the ownership rates were released:

Rickie Fowler (27% GPP, 21% cash) – I’ll be the first to admit, that this might only be a surprise to me. I didn’t get to read as much of other people’s stuff at the end of this week as I normally do, but I kind of thought due to some kind of twisted combination of course history and, I don’t know what? That people would be lower on Rickie than DJ and especially Stenson. And it turns out they all got picked fairly often. I ended up taking Stenson>Rickie>Spieth>DJ for my high priced guys, thinking that I’d have to battle more Stenson ownership. But this brings up an important point, at least for me – I can’t always perfectly predict ownership levels, so I always try to play some middle grounds with regards to ownerships. I briefly considered actually excluding Stenson and Steele this week even though they rated high, because I was worried about how popular they’d be. I ended up being glad I still took a good piece of them, because they didn’t come out as high as I thought!

Brendan Steele (14% GPP, 39% Cash) – Like I said, I almost considered getting off Steele in GPP altogether, because I was worried about a 30%+-type-ownership to carry over into GPP … but it didn’t, not by a long shot, and I’m glad, regardless of what happens, that I didn’t change my plays too much worrying about this. It was one I was considering heavily going in though! I really think we’re seeing almost an over-correction from the field when lots of different people are talking about the same guy. Everybody has different tolerances for % owned, but I think 14% is palatable for a guy who is really standing out to you. There were lots of good pivots right nearby in salary though, and I think people tend to build more stars/scrubs stacks in GPPs so there are less roster spots for mid-salary value guys like Steele.

Tony Finau (11% GPP 10% Cash) – This one fascinates me. The price isn’t any worse than what it’s been when Finau was previously a 25, 30, 35% owned cash play … he’s coming off a win where 40% of the field last week probably made money by rostering him … I expected more! I’ll be honest! But I think most Finau fans were chasing a little lightning in a bottle, and we got it last week! I’m sure there are plenty of post-win narratives too. In any case! I love watching Finau play real golf but I’ve mostly been a spectator on Finau for DFS, except for a few times when he was nearly minimum salary. I much prefer it when his good weeks don’t entirely knock me out of the money :)

Jordan Spieth (15% GPP, 4% Cash) – Naturally, nobody wanted to pay the extra $1900+ for Spieth in a double-up. Some non-perfect form melds with a big vegas advantage and a home state narrative for Spieth to gain about 15% traction in GPPs. I think I probably played him about the same amount. Until I see a few more duds, it’s going to be hard to not try to hitch your wagon to the odds of an eventual resurgence … I’ve spent money on worse things! For now!! :)

J.B. Holmes (5% GPP, 2.5% Cash) – To those of you who had emergencies, brain farts, alcohol poisoning, and/or nobody loves you and bothered to tell you that J.B. wasn’t playing this week … I apologize. For the rest of us, this is why we DFS :) … it’s not all the $$ in the world, but as we say in Virginia, it’s not nothing!

Good luck everyone this week! As always hit me up in the comments if you have any feedback!
