And we have a co-ownerships matrix that shows who the highest owned pairs of golfers were in this week’s $4 Fore:
Wow, so! Is there even anything to talk about besides Jon Rahm? Only semi-kidding! What a humongous bite! Let’s roll up our sleeves and see what was left, after examining the boy wonder himself:
Jon Rahm (40%+ GPP, 60%+ Cash) – I noted in my course-fit article that Rahm has basically been one of the highest owned golfers since his debut, CONSISTENTLY, and this week certainly wouldn’t be any different. I suppose it’s getting to the point where the momentum is totally out of control. I played him a ton, but some how I always talk myself into thinking the chalk won’t be THAT chalky. This is nearly record-setting. I remember Summer 2015, Hideki Matsuyama was consistently like $8,000’s and consistently finishing in the top 10 it seemed and there were weeks where he approached these kinds of numbers. Thing is, Matsuyama was a little more proven than Rahm back then and a lot cheaper. So at 40% I honestly wish I had faded. It’s kind of an absurd number that should be reserved for a true pricing error or something. Rahm’s a solid play no doubt but not THAT monumental at this point in his career … … … that said, not a lot of other options. So we’ll see what happens!
Kevin Na (27% GPP, 39% Cash) – I honestly didn’t think Na would be this high, either. I figured he’d be popular largely because of his memorable run last season, but he’s been kind of spotty here lately. Again, a lack of quality alternatives surely made a lot of people feel “comfortable” building around Na – especially in cash. He gives the impression of a slow, steady, consistent, reliable golfer -but in my opinion there really is no such thing. I felt like his price was fairly accurate if not high … so we’ll see how much crow I’m gonna eat!
Harris English (9.3% GPP, 38% Cash) – this is a huge split for gpp versus cash, IMO. Harris is a guy who was on everybody’s radar awhile back in some capacity, but hasn’t really done anything with it in quite awhile. Glancing through his recent performances it’s a ton of 25th-45th place finishes – but no missed cuts! I guess that’s the recipe people followed here – thinking they’ve got a cut-maker. All in all I think throwing up 25th-45th place performances isn’t doing much for me fantasy-wise, and I don’t think Harris is particularly immune to missing cuts by any means, but his depressed price lately is going to help somebody out in the near future, I believe, because I think he’s going to remind everyone of his upside some time soon (which is funny because seemingly people are drafting him due to his ‘consistency’ at this point!)
Scott Piercy (25% GPP, 33% Cash) – This guy! Hahaha. He was a laughing stock, and then last year turned himself into a force to be reckoned with at times … last week I thought was the tipping point, a lot of people paid decent money for him and he came out and shot a 79 and didn’t really do much to recover from that the next four rounds. Which, happens. But this week he’s still got an allstar price tag and people still rode him like crazy! Scott Piercy, to me, is definitely the kind of guy who I want when nobody else has him. At a top notch price and top notch ownership – there HAS to be better options, right?!
Charles Howell III (11% GPP, 11% Cash) – Oh, how the mighty have fallen! 12 months ago and Howell probably would have been the highest owned golfer in this field at $8.5k. Now he’s kind of floating around in obscurity for very cheap at 10-11% ownership. Now 12 months ago is 12 months ago and he’s been injured since then. But still, I feel like a lot of people who have risked a lot of money on Howell over the past year are going to be kicking themselves when he does well again and they don’t have him! But – such is the nature of the thrill of playing daily fantasy golf!
Best of luck to everyone!
