And we have a co-ownerships matrix that shows who the highest owned pairs of golfers were in this week’s $3 Birdie:

This week is ostensibly a warmup for the US Open, and once again I think a lot of us were peeking at those salaries while we were working on these! A lot of speculation about which golfers would do the same, figuratively … let’s see where everybody ended up!

Dustin Johnson (33% GPP, 22% Cash) – The Alpha play this week, DJ. Last year’s withdraw didn’t scare anyone off (or did it?). That’s one of the higher $3 GPP ownerships we’ll see. That was your established chalk going in, but there were lots of different ways to slice the next half dozen golfers or so:
Phil Mickelson (22% GPP, 23% Cash) – A little bit more comfortable starting place than DJ for trying to build a cash game team, Phil was on a lot of radars due to his resurgence this season and a good course history here. He’s been gaining strokes with his putter all season, to the point where I’m starting to expect it until proven otherwise. This performance will be almost as fascinating because it will greatly affect his hype (or lack thereof) heading into the US Open – if he contends or wins here, expect a LOT of attention to be on him. Moreso than your typical winner (except perhaps we could say the same about DJ).
Brooks Koepka (22% Cash, 22% GPP) – I honestly expected a little bit higher coming off the second place, but I think people are twice burned and thrice scared? Is that even a phrase? Something like that. But until he shakes his reputation for eagle-making, he’s going to be coveted by DFS it seems.
Luke Donald, Brendan Steele, Alex Cejka, Spencer Levin, and Patrick Rodgers (combined 2.9% in the $3 Birdie) – This is one of the more solid blocks of free action we’ve gotten for being attentive this season. The highest were Steele and Cejka at about 1% each. This is worth noting to me, as that’s over $10,000 in entries who rostered somebody who isn’t even in the event. There’s still hope that a small slice of that could be ours!
Good luck everyone!
