We have to love these “thin” fields as it seems to, these days, present an opportunity for everyone to lean heavily on the same players that get a lot of attention – in the face of less people being super familiar with the field, we tend to see people taking other people’s words for who’s good and who’s not … and well … we end up with things like SAINT PETE rising to the top of the ownership list!!

Peter Uihlein (39% GPP, 73% Cash) – HE’S ARRIVED! He’s been a model of consistency on the European Tour and hasn’t disappointed in a few tries on the PGA Tour – and in a week like this week, he’s got enough shine for $7k’s to really become a “can’t-miss” golfer … that we don’t really know a ton about? I sure played him, and am not surprised lots of others did, but whenever we’ve got somebody who’s really still an up-and-comer with the potential to sink such huge portions of the entries, it makes for some excitement!

Phil Mickelson (31% Gpp, 62% Cash) – The OPPOSITE “chops” as Uihlein – Mickelson’s been doing it for decades, but not so much lately, again though a selectable/delectable price and lack of other options combined with a monster course history here makes it hard to get around him. Mickelson’s a tried and true name in a field where many lineups are featuring golfers we’ve never played in our cash games before.

Kyle Stanley (34% GPP, 44% Cash) – One such golfer is Mr. Stanley, while his surge in play (especially from tee to green) hasn’t gone overlooked lately, I don’t think he’s been featured in this many cash game lineups before. In another field we’d probably go for somebody more “veteran”, more “reliable” in cash, but this week, beggars can’t be choosers, and reliability is relative, and Stanley has provided it lately! It will be interesting to see when/where his play and popularity end up peaking.

Francesco Molinari (25% GPP, 50% Cash) – I think Molinari was MASSIVELY owned on FanDuel, and I wonder if there’s not some crossover effect where if people are playing on both sites, and have a ton of Molinari for a little cheaper one place, they are more inclined to go a different direction on the other site. Just speculation, though! These are very healthy ownership numbers, and again a guy who people are familiar with in a field wrought with unfamiliarity.

Brooks Koepka (15% GPP, 8% Cash) – This is this week’s “I thought he’d be higher owned, but what do I know?” guy. I suppose recent form trumps course history here, and we see the uptick in GPP because of his dominant upside – and now that I toss it around in my head, I suppose it makes sense with such a strong price tag, but I thought maybe reputation and name recognition would carry him a little higher on the ownership report.

All in all, should be an exciting week, and there’s a LOT of room for contrarian dominance if these plays don’t go everyone’s way. Good luck everyone and get some rest before the US Open next week!
