Alright RotoGrinders! It’s an ownership holiday today – the bigger the tournament, the more important it becomes!

While we get teased with our action (or lack thereof), let’s see who was drawing the most attention this week!

Matt Kuchar (31% GPP, 50%+ Cash) – One of seemingly the more obvious pricing outliers this week, kind of hard to argue – not much to not like. I was honestly a little surprised at the 31% in GPP, I actually stuck with him there and tried to get unique other places, but I was hoping for more like 25% or less. Not the end of the world – when I make these plays, I hope they land within a range, and this was definitely the high end of my expected ownership for any one player in a 200,000-entrant contest. At the end of the day though, going in, very hard to pass him up, and the ownerships reflect that. What actually happens Thursday-Sunday though could be a different story!

Jason Day (30% GPP, 35% Cash) – The second chalk choice in the Millionaire Maker is Jason Day. Again I kind of expected, well, last time we saw this Spieth/Rory/Day priced similarly, I believe all three came out about 20% in GPP. But there’s a few things going on here. The tides have changed a little bit and people are really excited about Day, moreso than they were a month ago. Also, the pricing is “softer” for the millionaire maker so we actually see more people paying $12,000 for a player in cash. In other tournaments there seems to be a stronger trend towards building balanced in cash games especially, but 35% is an extremely healthy ownership even in cash games for Mr. Day. A lot will be riding on what he does, no matter if you have him or not, you’ll be paying attention to his rounds very closely to assess your chances of winning big this week!

Dustin Johnson (25% GPP, 24% Cash) – This one surprised me a little bit, I thought he’d be higher owed in cash games, maybe even approaching 40%, but like I hinted at above – I think that would have been in line with more “normal” pricing, where people would want to save $1,000, but I think there was a lot of comfort in the $6600-$7000 ish range this week so people weren’t worried about buying Day in cash games. So I didn’t see the surge on DJ in cash that I expected. It’s not like he’s low-owned by any stretch but I think if DJ was your favorite play, and you played him, you can live with 25% ownership from the field. If you had other guys you liked just as much, you probably worked some of them in as well, hopefully!

Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy (about 18% each in GPP) – I was surprised honestly I thought that Spieth, Rory, and Day would balance each other here, with maybe even Day and Rory being slightly higher owned than Spieth. But Day is the CLEAR public darling! Again I think anyone who picked Rory or Spieth and got 18% ownership is very satisfied with that, I was thinking maybe 20-25% each with the soft pricing.

Rickie Fowler (6.3% GPP) – I applaud anyone who made this play, I really do. If I could have played more lineups or had more balls I would have done it too. And while we’re in a delay, not to bury him, but we know it’s not starting out too hot, and we’ve seen this before. I just wanted to say that in general getting a player of his general skill level for that price, at 6.3% owned, is not a play to be ashamed of, no matter how it works out. I think that based on what we knew going in, that this was a very very savvy play for a millionaire maker type contest. If it continues to not work out (PLENTY of time for that to change), don’t get discouraged! Just budget properly and keep making sharp plays and it will pan out!

Good luck everyone! Let’s hope a RotoGrinder can bring home the million!
